Wireless Apple carplay

I'm of the understanding that to have my iPhone connected it must be plugged in.
I hope there will be a firmware update to allow wireless CarPlay. The GT-line I have on order has a charging plate & this I know would need an iPhone charging case to work. BMW have released their latest motors with wireless CarPlay & I hope Peugeot haven't missed out.
I know it's no big deal to plug your phone in every time but with a car that has so much tec fitted it would have been nice to leave my phone in a pocket or bag.

I agree, this is something I would love to see too.

I would then be able to get a qi charging cover for my iPhone and job done!

It would appear that with wifi and Bluetooth already in the hardware, it would just require a software patch to incorporate this....?

I believe BMW are the only manufacturer to have wireless car play, although VW are expected to launch cars with it soon.
I think that's right, BMW's unit is produced by Harman/Samsung (who also make VW units). Do you know which manufacturer make the Peugeot system?

Alpine also do an aftermarket unit with wireless carplay, so it would not appear there is any exclusivity deal with BMW or similar....

Thanks Lee - never heard of Arkamys before!

You would hope so, however bare in mind that Nissan still sells today Juke's/Qashqui's/X Trail's without any carplay or android auto whatsoever.. Peugeot whilst not offering wireless, is at least on par with most manufacturers.

Wireless would be the cream on the cake!

From what I understand wireless carplay works through the cars wifi which our cars have, Apple need to implement wireless carplay on its phones which I am hoping they will do with IOS 10. Not sure I don't know much about Android but Android Auto should also go wireless soon.

iPhone 8 and X ... now with wireless charging !

Get my 3008 GT later this month. I am begging Peugeot to update the system for wireless car play.

Does anyone know if the Android version is wireless as lots of Android phones are already wireless charging enebled. This might give us a clue if it’s going to be possible with a sortware update as opposed to a new unit.

The iPhone 8 may just be the answer, if an expensive one. I wonder if there would be possible overheating problem. However it's not rocket science and I'm sure Peugeot could implement it if they weren't so concerned about all the electronics in the car. There's a built-in wifi for the Connect emergency system with it's own sim card. If Apple owned Peugeot it would be sorted in no time

I think its been noted before that the actual hardware in our cars doesn't actually support it.

Last time I looked (in 2017), only BMW seemed to offer wireless Carplay.

I just use a 0.5 metre official Apple lead (left in the cars USB socket) and plug it into my phone every time I get in. This works well, as I get into a routine of unplugging the phone before I switch off the engine. This ensures that the MyPeugeot app also hooks onto the iPhone (via bluetooth) and captures details of the trip I've just driven.

Carplay works very well for calls, music, Whatsapp, text etc. using this method and you can use voice control to read back and interact.

Thank you for this.
I am still not sure of the conditions under which My Peugeot updates but , as you say, if you unplug before switching off it does seem to download.
Waze is now working well on Car Play so I can ignore TomTom. May sound like a strange question, but if I have TomTom and Waxe running at the same time is there a way to silence TomTom. Just occasionally it is useful to see the TomTom graphics but without TomTom interrupting Waze on audio.
