Hello everyone,

2003 year 307 SW 2.0litre 16V 136HP Petrol

I'm quite flummoxed by the following saga and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got an anti-pollution fault on the display.
Car continued to drive well, no misfires, all smooth.

After a couple of further journeys it no longer starts.
PP2000 shows that the engine ECU has a
"Permanent fault" p0410.
I have read the forum's existing advice extensively.
I checked the secondary air pump - no water. I can make the pump run by
supplying 12V directly. I checked its 30A fuse in the engine compartment fuse box.

Ongoing questions:
1)
Is there a relay for the secondary air pump? If so, where can I find it?
2)
Is it normal that the engine no longer starts? Is this a consequence of p0410?
3)
PP2000 is unable to clear the fault. Do I need to do this before
the engine will start again?
4) PP2000 is unable to run tests on things like the coil, secondary air supply etc - is this normal?
5)
Are there specific hoses that need to be checked? Is there a place one should check that secondary air is being pumped?
6) Is there any likelihood that the lambda sensor could be involved?
Again, unable to test this with PP2000.

What version is your Lexia module? Some earlier versions had difficulty reading 307's. Might pay to get someone else to bring their proven Lexia kit to test your car or you try yours on someone else's [same model] 307..?

If your Lexia module is ok, it should be able to interrogate/operate various components. If it cant, either the unit is faulty or the wiring/connections are faulty/dirty/corroded/wet so go through all connections, especially to the BSI and engine ECU, check/clean ground connection points etc.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I confess there are many aspects of the PP software I don't
understand. I installed PP 09B - then I run Peugeot Planet 2000.
When I am back home I can try to find more exact specifications.

I come back to the question in the title of my post - could anyone help
with what I know is a very naive question.
The 0410 pollution fault seems to be a famous one,
but does it cause the ECU to stop the engine working when it is present -
or in principle can the engine work, albeit with the constant anti-pollution fault?

As you can see, after a couple of starts my engine stopped working...
and I do not understand if that is normal.

PS I am in Zurich Switzerland and do not see any members with
a known-to-be-working Lexia - unless someone knows of such!?

Hi Will

I was running software pp2000 V22 software with a Lexia 3 cable.
I have now updated to V23 and then a further update to
V24.21

I can now report that new faults are shown, namely 0351 and 0352 (coil failures). This is an improvement. I can also report that a generic OBD-2
scanner could pick these up.

Strangely the section of PP2000 where one can test individual components
(e.g. secondary air, or each of the coils, or the fuel pump etc) still
does nothing, saying that the action is not possible. I confess that
I am not very happy with the Lexia set-up I bought, which was
from an ebay seller.
I will start another thread on that topic.

I know that PP2000 does not work on my 407's, they are too late a model. I only use PP2000 on my 406's which are all pre 2002. I use Diagbox mostly, including on my 2003 2.0 307HDi.
Because you cant access someone else with either a similar car to test your kit on or an alternative Lexia kit to try on your car, I would try loading Diagbox and test if that works. I use 7.58 on my one laptop and 7.62 on the other. I wouldnt install anything higher as it can get iffy the higher you go and Peugeot is sitting in the background trying to stop you using it via upgrades etc..
The clones available on ebay are probably all made in the same factory in China, so, unless you managed to get a very old model [old stock], the unit itself will be the same for everyone. The difference is the seller might have differing sources for the software bundle and this makes or breaks the ease of installation. The software I got bundled with mine comes from a UK vendor and is a breeze to install [essentially click and go..], have had none of the hassles installing it I see others who have bought from chinese sellers have.

Thank you WIllNZ for your continued interest and help.

I will hold Diagbox in reserve as I seem to be on a good track now.
Let us hope that the coil swap does it.

Incidentally I am presently stuck in ECO mode and have discovered one cannot get out of it if the engine doesn't work (or so it seems) - since I cannot
wind down the driver window as per the "reset BSI" instructions, because it
does not operate in ECO, and I cannot start the engine.
Maybe there is a way in PP200 to do this, if so it will wait for another day..

In ECO mode one cannot operate the window, unless there is a
work-around. And without a running engine I cannot get out of ECO mode.
Or am I confused?

Hi,

I can now answer the title of my thread.
p0410 will not disable the engine.
Something else will.

At the same time as having this fault my key fell apart. I swapped
the circuit board inside it into one of my spare keys.
It turns out that disabled the engine. I still don't quite understand -
but I was merrily oblivious to the presence of the transponder
tucked away in the body of the key.
This "new" composite key did not disable the immobiliser it turns out
and the car would not start for this reason.
When the transponder was swapped as well, the car starts.
Not I did not buy a new empty shell, I used my spare....

Oh well, in the course of all this I had already swapped the coil as the likely
source of the problem.
p0410 has gone away, I will assume that was the problem.

Moral: do not change too many things at once.
