Evening all.

Just had my 106 start making an extremely odd noise.

OH was driving when she said it felt like a brick hitting the car and it started making an odd noise

Noise still there when clutch depressed. Noise wasn't there when stationery. If moving with accelerator pressed no/very little noise. If foot taken off gas whilst moving, noise kicks in

Anybody any ideas??

How are gear changes? Any lack of power?

Gear changes seem fine.

There has been an ongoing problem of where the gear only just about goes in.... but I think that's to do with new parts I've added.

There doesn't seem to be a lack of power..... but I drive a 150bhp Vec so most things seem slower :p

Just had another look at youtube video. Is it possible that an engine or gearbox mount has let go causing the engine to tilt on the overrun and the fan is hitting something? My initial thought was something in bell housing. What other parts have you fitted causing difficult gear selection?

Nothing hitting the fan as far as I could see.

I had a service and a check over on the car and loose linkage was noticed.

Replaced with all uprated linkages (ball and cup)

And kept jumping out of 1st and 3rd. Was advised to change the selector and plastic bush.

I've been advised over the phone that it could be a gearbox bearing......

Gonna get the car on stands and check the bushes the weekend.

Found this online, so hopefully helpful.....

My quick guide...
With wheels still on the ground, loosen the driveshaft hub nuts
Drain Gearbox oil
Remove Wheels
Remove wishbone pinch bolt
Jack car, then get a club hammer and hit the wishbone next to the ball joint, this will remove the ball joint from the sturts.
Remove the driveshaft hub nuts
Pull driveshafts out.
Remove starter motor
Remove linkages
Remove clutch Cable
Remove the earths on the gearbox
Remove Gearbox mount bolts under battery
Remove lower engine mount bolt
Jack the engine to support its weight
Remove gearbox to engine bolts
Shake gearbox loose
Catch gearbox
Remove from car
Cup of tea!

Took me an hour.

Tools

Socket Set
Hammer
Chisel to ping hub nut loose
Torx set
Pliers for linkage removal
Spanners
Girlfriend for tea making!

Sounds OK, however;
1. I would definitley jack the car up BEFORE removing wheels.
2. Disconnect the battery
