hello

can anyone help me, I have a 407 SW 2.2 petrol auto 2005, at the last MOT I had slight play in ball joints. Driving along the other day I got a humming noise after going above 30mph. The noise is speed dependent not engine RPM.

I have bought a pair of ball joints for £60 and two wheel bearing kits as I presume the humming will be a wheel bearing. Is it just easier to change both ball joints and bearings?? How much would I expect the bill to be for a garage fitting these for me.

Well presuming I have the right guessed the correct problem

thanks

About 5 hours labour., + VAT for a garage to do that lot for you.

BTW, the humming could easily be the output side of the gearbox, which runs at roadspeed and not engine speed. The ML6 does make a slight hum/whine, especially at lower RPMs in higher gears, and this is quite normal. Unless it's broken.
