I have a 1.6hdi 2008 which is currently in the garage after a breakdown.
The engine revved by itself but stopped when i turned the ignition off, black smoke was omitted from the exhaust and it sounded like i was dragging the engine along the floor behind me.
Garage confirmed that the oil level was very high and presumed that the injectors were leaking/over fueling causing oil level to rise and turbo to feed off its own oil.
Injectors removed & tested to find that all 4 are underfueling & receiving zero fuel on start up. (No issues whatsoever prior to the breakdown car ran perfectly).
Mixed response from garage (not local so unknown to me or anybody i know). They believe injectors have taken out the turbo, others have said its the other way around, just want clarification as I have accepted the fact that it needs new injectors & a new turbo. What could have caused this to happen?

Hi...sorry to hear that...but usualy its the turbo bearings that have failed and oil at high pressure has been fed directly into the intake manifold and the engine has run on its own oil(I call that a 'run out')that could have damaged the injectors as the engine combustion chamber would have been full of oil... this could have been caused by normal wear and tear of lack of maintenence...good luck tho

ps...there may even be con-rod damage

More likely injectors were fine but failed regens have raised oil level and allowed DPF to start blocking the extra load on turbo and increased crankcase pressure has then made it run on oil blown into intake via breather.

How do they know injectors are under fuelling and no pressure if they disconnect or loosen any fuel rail or injector union you will get no pressure as pump sees a leak due to no pressure building in rail and shuts down regulator as a safety feature.

Any fault codes listed and what are live data readings

thank you for the prompt responses. There is no dpf on my car as initially this is what was they thought was probable cause.
Injectors were removed and sent to a specialist for testing (I have a copy of the report) which states that at 30mph they are all under fueling, at idle they are all under fueling & on start up 3 out of the 4 are getting no fuel at all.
Apparently, this means that the car should have been running like a bag of spanners, however, there was absolutely no issues with the car before the breakdown, was running perfect.

also prior to the garage removing the injectors & turbo the car was running (I hadn't tried to restart after breakdown for fear of causing further engine damage)
