First time I’ve actually had any lights on my 1.6hdi the other day the esp light came on but no management light. Then it went off on the next restart
Then yesterday the esp light came on and noticed the car was down on power. Revved it up to 3000 to confirm it was in limp mode then went I let off the throttle and pulled away from the lights performance was as normal

Have a u1208 which is abs not communicating with Ecu.
I’m sure the car has always had this fault and all features work. I could even get the pump running as well

Next fault is p1471 which is the butterfly open egr. I assumed it was mapped out years ago and never had a problem. Is this just gummed and isn’t doing its sync test correctly ?

I heard some early models threw the esp light on even though it actually didn’t have anything to do with it? Is this the case with my car ?

Drove to work today after clearing faults

Left work and car was running awful with esp light on tried to rev up and the car played up and struggled to get to 2800 revs pulled off struggling then it sorted itself out and limp mode went away

Restarted later and no esp light again

Is the egr valve cleanable with spray types as there an utter pain to take off and clean

Some engine codes will also trigger esp fault as engine ecu cannot be 100% it can control the torque/engine power so fail safe to esp off with warning light on. If code clears on restart etc then esp is also reset.

I think that P1471 relates to the doser valve more than EGR as Doser is closed to restrict air flow through intercooler and encourage flow from EGR. So check vac pipes and valve etc

Thanks I had a new throttle valve a few months ago as I had a major oil leak as it spilt

When it starts it runs fine then goes rough and then either goes in limp mode or runs fine

I sprayed some egr cleaner down the inlet and it’s helped but it has gone in limp mode once rather then every other startup

As regards running turbo and boost is fine when it’s actually running car seems to splutter on Cold start up if I switch off and restart it’s pretty as normal

Still comes on occasionally but not so much revving up to limp then letting it settle and restarts seems to sort it esp light off and limp mode off
