Two tensioners on auxiliary belt?

282 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  IanOnWater
Hi I’ve just had a snapped auxiliary belt, and the tensioner is broken too. But when I ordered a new kit, the shops says the car has two tensioners- sure enough there is another black wheel which you can move a tiny bit with effort below the usual swinging tensioner. The lower one only appears to have a single bolt through the middle. I’m trying to work out how it has some movement, and whether that single bolt anchors the whole assembly in. 308 sw hdi diesel with start stop. 2014. Can anyone offer any help please? Thank you,

Thanks for your reply. In the end I got a complete kit £177 I removed the top tensioner easily enough, the lower tensioner has two bolts holding it on but the wheel covers one of them a little. Then I lost my 10mm in the floor pan… so thinking a special tool was required to move the wheel I gave up and took it to a garage. Assuming this was a quick job anyway. I was charged 2 hours labour at £144 and see that the process was as simple as removing a large bolt that holds the wheel and its bearing on. Then there is access. I’m an idiot, and a poorer one too! I reckon it must have taken all of 20mins to do the job. A bit annoyed at 2 hours charge, but there you go. Oddly the car also went in with 2/3 fuel, and came out one third full. I won’t be using them again. Thanks for replying!
