My 2005 plate 2.0 HDI is on its 5th DPF at 140k.

For a car which does only motorway driving this was incredibly annoying!

local mechanics, peugeot uk and a memorable 8 day stay for the car in a garage at Peugeot Spain during my holiday in Marbella last year due to the car going into limp home mode with a blocked DPF - no-one could find the root of the problem as to why the car would not regen on its own and would only do so when forced.

I've contemplated scrapping the car, cause i just dont trust it not to break down in the outside lane of a motorway again.

But then, thanks to trusty google & and this website, i came across a thread suggesting sometimes the fuel filler cap can be at fault.

I relayed this to my pug specialist who thought that there was a warning light/ error code to flag such an issue - none of which had previously been found.

On my insistance he checked it out during the car's annual service and low and behold the fuel cap magnet/ sensor thing is knackered and probably always has been so the poor pug never stood a chance of regenerating!

I am overjoyed!! I can see the end of the torment finally! I will soon have a fully functioning DPF once again :D

Many thanks to this site for restoring my sanity and bank balance!
There is hope for all those 407s languishing with indeterminate faults!!!

i was about to explore removing the DPF permanently too!

After spending well more that £1500 on parts and exploration in the past 18 months I'm overjoyed that there is finally a diagnosis and that its relatively inexpensive to fix! :D

Hopefully me and my pug will now live happily ever after! :thumb:
