Timing Chain Snapped

Hi,
I’ve just completed this particular job on my daughter’s 2019 5008. I got great advice and guidance from @RedSector.

All I can say is to be careful! Peugeot Ireland ( Gowans) will do absolutely nothing for you once you’re out of warranty.

Depending on the damage done during the catastrophic failure, it well could end up needing the engine replacement, however, my daughter was stopped at a junction when the chain snapped, so I was of the opinion that any damage had to be less than failure at speed. I was right. No damage to pistons or valves, only the broken 7mm chain and Camshaft housing damage.
I replaced with the new 8mm chain, which includes a whole new Re-designed housing and Camshafts, as well as the actual chain and tensioner.
It’s a big job, but doable if you have an interest in all things mechanical, and lots of time!
Bottom line, we got out for under a grand €, so as I said, be careful, especially with main dealer estimates.
I hope that helps.
Regards,

I absolutely agree, it’s something no DV5 engine owner should expect or have to deal with. However, since this particular issue came to my door, I’ve came across an awful lot of people who’ve experienced this catastrophic failure, through research and word of mouth.
I think the fact that this particular engine design began its life as recently as 2019, the particular issue is now coming to light because the 5 year warranties on the first cars are now expired and people are being left with Huge repair bills. The Manufacturer is leaving the owner alone to deal with a seriously dangerous, let alone expensive situation. My daughter’s Peugeot 5008 DV5 engine failed ( luckily at stop) with my three grandkids in the car. I don’t even want to think what could have happened on the motorway.
A full recall of these Stellantis engines ( Peugeot, DS, Citroen, Opel, and Toyota Commercial) needs to be done or people just need to avoid them like the plague, especially if you value your family.
