Hello all, I'm new to this so bear with me!

I have a 3008 "17" plate and in December 2022 the engine failure light an oil light came on. Booked into local garage on 12th December and they advised the timing belt had come apart and dispersed around the engine. This is a major job and advised to contact Peugeot uk. I contacted them to be advised that this was a new recall on 6th December 2022..... How lucky was I? Advised to take the car to my local main dealer to have the work carried out under "extended warranty". In April 2023 got an urgent safety recall "loss of brake assistance caused by trimming belt particles in the engine oil circuit". It also said "we will check your vehicles braking assistance system components which could be damaged / clogged by deterioration of the timing belt" . The last part, does this mean they should check all parts of the breaks and engine etc? All that I received from my main dealer for the works was a job card with "Warranty recall - carry out software download and check the timing belt width".

Went to Scotland some 400 miles away last weekend and the Engine Fault light came on again, called AA out who advised not to drive it "code error P0011" - Camshaft position (CMP) intake /left/front timing belt over advanced system performance. I told them of recent problems and they advised this could be connected to particles still in the engine. Had to have my car transported by AA from Glasgow to Norwich, it took 3 days!

I now need to pay £160 for diagnostics at my local dealer who did the initial work and get my car transported to them.

Any information / help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
L

Hello similar problem here. I have a 2016 reg 2008 urban cross. Bought 2 years ago from FOW and within 6 months it needed a new engine! After a lot of discussion managed to get a reconditioned engine in September 2022. Since then various things have gone wrong but the latest was warning light then brakes went hard and had to be towed back home with vacuum pump failure. The vacuum pump was blocked with parts of the cam belt and so advised to get a new one.

I just wondered though, I have no idea what year the reconditioned engine was and if it was one that should have been recalled?!

anykne any ideas how I would find out?

There was VIN limited recall in Australia for this exact problem on 1.2l puretech from the wet belt, don't remember off the top of my head the details or models in the recall or if it was worldwide (the recall here had only AU listed VIN's sold here), and not aware of the 'fix' applied by PSA/Peugeot to remedy the issue. One thing do remember is thinking, wonder how gets to the brake booster (sure it said wet belt debris in the brake booster, but maybe it meant the vacuum pump)

Is there a way to find out how many of the 2212 vehicles that were recalled had a problem? My 2020 peugeot 208 is currently off road. The wet belt snapped even though its up to date with all services and has only 48,000 miles on there. Peugeot wont repair it even though they have said that the wet belt has a 10 year warranty and have offered a 25% GWG off the cost of repair leaving 5.5k to get new engine. Iim currently waiting for the motor ombudsman to take on my case that they have agreed to do and waiting on what the finiance company will say. 6 months its been so far

Hi, do you have any update on this? I have recently suffered break failure whilst driving on the motorway due to the break pump being blocked and failing. My 3008 was recalled in 2023 and Peugeot are not helping at all. I am going to get in touch with the motor ombudsman also. Did they provide you with any help? I would also be interested to know how many people this has affected! It could have been fatal for myself and 2 young children!

Hi.. Unfortunately Im still in the same situation no updates. Apparently Motor ombudsman are still waiting for an assessor to become available to take my case on. The finance company are apparently still looking into it.. Thank goodness your all okay.. You need to wait for a final response from Peugeot ideally before contacting the ombudsman. Peugeot customer care have 8 weeks from the date of intitial complaint to give you a final response. Do everything through email so you have a full record and if you can get all evidence of the service history etc. I had to get mine recovered by RAC so I had their report aswell as to initial diagnosis.. I hipe this helps. Dont give up.. I will not give up and let them get away with it. Good luck!

Have you had any resolution on this issue yet? The engine on my 5008 went in July due to a wet belt complete failure which has an outstanding safety recall on it. Since then I've been stuck in a rotating hell between the Stellantis garage, Peugeot customer services, and some recall campaign line they've introduced me to about 5 weeks in to the problem.

I've raised a complaint with the Ombudsman a few weeks ago, but really don't think I can be without that car for 6 months before someone even looks at my case. Feeling pretty hopeless now in actually getting this resolved.

Hi. Yes I have actually won my case.. Keep pushing don’t give up. I had to get another vehicle due to the time it was taking. I Had an update 3 weeks ago so it did take over a year unfortunately.. How long ago did you get a letter regarding the recall? If it has a recall they can not deny the repair plus they need to provide you with a courtesy car.. do everything through email. Reply to all keep a full thread of everything.. Email Peugeot customer care and tell them if they can’t give the resolution that you are entitled too you want to speak to a manager. Tell them you’ve contacted the ombudsman aswell and you know your rights.. The wet belts have a 10 year warranty they will ask for proof of service history aswell but the fact you have the recall I personally think that should be enough.. Email them a copy of the recall aswell Good luck

Yeh I've been through a lot of this but I can't quite believe just how awful and obstructive they've collectively been. I got the recall letter on 25th July. Have stated my rights to the garage but they keep claiming its a Peugeot issue (ignoring the fact that they are Stellantis, part of the same group and a direct representative of peugeot in this instance). So they're saying they've put in different types of tickets and waiting authorisation to fix from Peugeot, but currently the latest "recall ticket" they put in has been in for a month without having been responded to or read. They apparently have no way of chasing it up internally, so the mechanic keeps trying to suggest to me that I call customer service to escalate the ticket. They then send me to a special number for the recall campaign, who from what I can tell know little to nothing about Peugeot and are either a third party or a Stellantis group line (they always answer 'Citreon recall line'). They then say they don't know why the garage arent fixing my car and one of their superiors will get back to me and never do. I just go round in circles and have done for 12 weeks. Even sought out solicitors advice who agree completely under Consumer Rights Act they have no leg to stand on.

And the best part is there doesn't seem to be an email address that is actually live for Peugeot customer care anymore. I have asked several times and everyone I am given the e-mail bounces back. I have tried to send them letters of Notice before action but can't seem to send it to anyone. it's utterly insane. I will never by a peugeot again after this one.

I'd be really keen to understand what your process was to get to resolution. I'm not sure I can really afford to buy an alternative car whilst I'm waiting for this to be resolved unfortunately.

Hi. I felt like I’d lost but I just kept on. I spoke with Peugeot customer care first but was having to constantly chase them.. I then contacted the motor ombudsman who didn’t really help contacted the financial ombudsman also and contacted Stella this as they have the authority to get this sorted. It took a long time but was worth the fight. I was in the same situation but purchased a really cheap runaround This is the email address I had correspondence from Peugeot customer care on peugeot_uk-en@my-customerportal.com Once the Financial ombudsman did take my case on it was dealt with quite quickly. Have you gone to a Peugeot dealer ship to book the car in they need to give you a loan car

I might try contacting the financial ombudsman. Only done the motor ombudsman so far. I'll also try to contact Stellantis and the Peugeot e-mail you've given me here, thank you.

Yeh, I've booked it at a Stellantis &You Peugeot dealership. They sent me to customer service to book the hire car. Customer service took a week on the case to come back and say "Your vehicle is over 7 years old therefore out of warranty and you don't qualify for a hire car." When I called them immediately to contest this as the belts have an extended 10 year warranty now, the response I got was "I've just spoken to your case manager, and they have said that you have received your final decision, so if you have any issues with it you need to take it up with the Ombudsman."... I was ready to explode.
