I've read that you can tape the transponder from your key to the car so that other keys can be used without having to get them programmed etc.
Where, exactly, would I put it?
I've tried just holding the main key near the steering wheel column but that doesn't work.
It's a Pug 206 (2004)

Thanks

Two things I can see wrong with doing that.....

1) makes the car a whole lot easier to steal
2) What happens if the transponder falls away and gets either lost, damaged or vacuumed up ?

In answer to the question, you would tape it to the transponder ring around the ignition barrel

As Storeman says, there is a black ring around the ignition barrel with a receiver built in, the chip would be taped on it to work.

For doing it - can use keys that don't have chips in them, so new keys are cheaper
Against doing it - may affect the insurance......

I found out the downside.
My remote fob no longer locks the car because it thinks I've left the key in it.
