Hi,

I have noticed a rattle noise coming from the engine bay of my 2013 Peugeot 308 active. It is a petrol engine. The car has done 46000Km.

The noise lasts about 1 minute and only happens when the vehicle starts up from cold.

Any ideas what the noise is? Has anyone else had this sound coming from the engine bay?

Not suppose to rattle because 2010 earlier models have rattle timinig chain problems. Make sure oil level is correct upto full and right grade oil used 5w30 or 5w40 fully syn and dont exceed oil change intervals more than 10k to be on safe side 7.5k and you will be ok.

Check if any codes are store if no codes nothing to worry off just enjoy the drive. I have same car 1.6 petrol 2012 as a precaution i replaced the timing chain tensioner only which is not expensive part and easy to replace. By the way mine have done 190000kms with factory timing chain

I would not recommend 5w40 oil my daughter's VTI engine had faults triggered when using it as 40 grade is too thick for the vanos solinoids to work correctly went back to 5w30 and faults never came back

Well i cant say much mine worked perfectly fine during summer with 5w40 and winter 5w30. I believe solenoids only make troubles when they have debris or gunk in them or they need cleaning.
