Good morning all.

When the engine is cold, after start up it runs for a few seconds, the revs drop and it stalls. Then to keep it going I rev it at 1200-1500 rpm for a minutes then it fine, unless i park up for a 12hours shift.

So far i have changed the high pressure fuel pump, spark plugs,one coil due to rubber coming off when changeling plugs oil filter, timing chain. took off the pipes on the throttle body and cleaned with carb cleaner and it was not that dirty. also sea foamed the engine and got some smoke but not much.

Its a 207 gt 150thp 2007, 52k miles on the clock.

I have a obd Bluetooth kit and use my phone with torque application on it and no faults show up. Air intake temp is ok and coolant temp is ok so i feel in limbo.

exhaust tail pipe i keep cleaning this and i get alot of black carbon.
Any help would be amazing thanks.

check/clean the map sensor, if no joy see if you can find a cheap TB, if it doesnt work sell it on, could be the fly by wire gizmo playing up.

Did you reset adaptives after the work and also check for brake light switch trouble codes.

Faulty brake light switch can initiate a adaptive reset sometimes and if you don't go through the correct procedure and just drive the car it learns wrong values and poor cold start and stalling results.

Have you also checked inlet valves for carbon build up

Did not know about reset adaptives, how do you do that?
Ive just been driving the car but the problems i have i had before all the work.
Whats do you mean brake light switch trouble codes.

If one side of the brake light switch circuit fails the engine ecu see the brake pedal as pressed when it's up and the brake lights not on. The ecu sees both switch circuits and logs a miss match trouble code.

The other problem is that there is a manual engine adaptive reset process (which I can't remember as I do it with diagbox) which includes pressing brake pedal and switching on ignition so ecu can see faulty brake switch as pedal down and reset values to default and go into learn mode.

To set the correct values in learn mode engine must be started from cold without touching throttle and no load on engine (A/C, lights and heated screen etc off) car then must be left to get upto temperature (fan start). Then driven through the gears as normal including exceeding 4500 rpm and letting it over run with no throttle from around 4000 rpm down to near idle revs

TB= throttle body, and fly by wire is electronicly controlled, but without any codes its just trial and error so try the free/cheap possible fixes first.

been quite a few 207 owners with similar symptoms recently, and I would be looking at the timing control solenoid electro valve, we have fixed 3 with similar issues too yours with this part.

Hi ADS77, knowing how vital the operation of these valves are to the smooth running of the engine, I've been gobsmacked at how inexpensive you can find them online - for example I found pairs of them going for less than £34!!!

If you have experience of fitting many of them do you have any thoughts on what ones to buy?

Hi Ivor,

Personally I wouldn't go with those that you have linked, reason being is that the newer ones have changed their design slightly, and there are no holes as such on them that you can clearly see on the ones in the link you attached.

Would go with the newer version that Peugeot would fit if car went to a dealership, the retail at £95 from the dealer but can get for around £50 on ebay if you have the rite part code for the specific car.

I think I’m having similar problems to this. Car idles rough, fuel economy is poor and loss of power sometimes. Been to see a mechanic today because I thought it would be the solenoid. Where is it located ? Is it under the plastic cover on top of rocker cover ?

back of the engine left side next to timing chain tensioner, you will see a power cable going into it.:thumb:

Just fitted it it’s mounted a bit further down than the pic and it’s 10mm socket for anyone doing it on the thp engine. But it’s worked which is the main thing.

Good one doing the job as its a pain to get the bolt back in :thumb:
