My dad has a 57 plate C1 - He took it to a Citroen dealer who said the starter motor would need replacing. They quoted him £500 - or £300 for a refurb.

This seems like a huge amount to me ? - anyone had one done cheaper ? ...and any thoughts on a refurb ..good move or not ?

I'd be surprised - I know of only 1 starter failure out of over 2000 club members.

It's an easy DIY job, if a touch fiddly due to access if to want tackle it yourself. Alternatively, a quality independent will be nearer the £200 mark - reckon on a ton or a bit more for the part, an hours labour (being generous) and VAT.

Go for a refurb unit - most are done to a very high standard and have the same or better warranty than the part fr the dealer. The dealer part is also re manufacturered, albeit by the original manufacturer rather than a third party company.

Two 14mm studs hold it on. Plus two wires. All can be got from up top.
