Hello,

I have a February 2019 3008 GTLine and I am based in Cape Town, South Africa.

When I attempt a software or navigation update, I get the error “Version not compatible with hardware”. This does not make sense as I have downloaded the software from the sites that are listed by the My Peugeot app under the VEHICLE tab, that are specifically intended for my vehicle.

Can anybody shed some light on this issue?
I have asked my local dealer and Peugeot UK (developers of the My Peugeot App), and both have been unable to solve my problem. They both state that according to my VIN the updates should work.
Yes after few many try and errors disconnectig car battery for 15-20 min and start after switch of ECO mode Start stop insert usb key make tro

ugh Peugeout update and..:))))

disconnect plus on car battery for 15 min.
then try again and problem solved...
Didn’t work for me. Instead, I got a parking brake fault, and the car wouldn’t start after reconnecting the battery. 😰 Stressed out! After some time, I believe it ran all the necessary checks, and everything is fine now. So, I won’t bother with any updates anymore. 😅

There's a procedure to disconnect the 12V battery, namely wait 5 minutes after turning off the ignition and close the car. Not doing so, you can have all sorts of ECU faults, that were awake and writing data parameters.
And you still have a firmware update with expired certificates after that battery reset.

Right now, both the NAC Wave 2 (21.08.90.52_NAC-r0) and Wave 4 (44.07.33.32_NAC-r0) have valid certificates, are in PUB status, and Peugeot Update should offer the correct version and license. There's no need to use any "trick".

Having recently bought a new 508, I had the same issues as above, Not Compatible with Hardware, I tried ensuring wifi connection etc... but still got same response.

Finally, after downloading update for a fourth time, on a new usb drive it worked.

@bibsy1969 You probably have a NAC Wave 4. As posted above, if you prepared/downloaded the update after that date
Code:
  "updateDate": "2025/01/28 12:39:24",
it should work fine.

Any Wave 4 update downloaded between 2025/01/08 14:06:37 and 2025/01/28 12:39:24 had either expired certificates or was not in PUB status, and you'd see that infamous "Version not compatible with hardware" generic error.

Not related to the battery, but to the date (or to the file offered at that date) you prepared the USB key.
NAC Wave 2 firmware updates downloaded between 3 Nov 2024 14:38:04 and 17 Jan 2025 15:47:36 (16 Jan 2025 14:35:51 if you didn't use Peugeot Update), were impossible to install. You don't need WiFi if you have the correct license key on the USB flash drive.

That same error message "Version not compatible with the firmware", is also shown when you don't have a valid license or the car isn't connected to the internet (WiFi, tethered phone, or just a connected service available) to verify the license online.

@povilas You have an NAC Wave 3 infotainment system (your current firmware version is 3x.xx.xx.xx). The 42.03.33.42_NAC-r0 version offered by Peugeot Update for that system is a special bundle that converts it to NAC Wave 4 and also includes the map-eur_10.0.0-r0 cartography (already for the Wave 4, since any map/cartography installed will be deleted during the conversion) - that's why it has over 23 GB. Unfortunately, that bundle was released long ago (2021), also has expired signed certificates, and the Wave 3 seems forgotten by PSA/Stellantis since then.
Good evening,

On another site, we can find the "RSA PRIVATE KEY" corresponding to WAVE3-42.01.72-32-r0.key.
Using the updated certificates from recent firmware and this private key, is it possible to recreate usable firmware ?

@thoun

Hello,

Can you explain in more detail what you found on the "another site"?

Don't confuse "certificates," which are part of the update file, with "license," which is an external file (.key) to the update.

The current problem for Wave3 NACs is certificates that have expired since November 3, 2024.

Hello,

On the website GitHub - ludwig-v/psa-nac-firmware-reverse-engineering: Continental OVIP firmware reverse engineering for PSA/Stellantis cars (Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel), we can find the RSA private keys 31.08.05-46-r0.key , 31.09.46-62-r0.key , and 42.01.72-32-r0.key , which allow us to decode the corresponding firmware.
psa-nac-firmware-reverse-engineering/Firmware_Keys/WAVE3 at main · ludwig-v/psa-nac-firmware-reverse-engineering

Moreover, in the updated firmware, 44-07-33-32_NAC-r0, we find usable certificates.

Is it possible to recode a usable 42.01.72-32-r0 with all this?

@thoun,

I don't think it's that simple! If we could modify the certificates that validate the update content, that would mean we could modify the code and validate it with modified certificates. Until proven otherwise, no one has successfully modified NAC firmware.

I don't have the knowledge to test the decryption to see what the decrypted firmware looks like.
This was an idea for someone who knows how. Maybe rui.saraiva! ;)

Hello. Is there any information about update (42.03.33.42_NAC-rO). That the only one Peugeot app offers me. And I’m only able to download cartography with firmware together. But end up with “version is not compatible with hardware”. Would be grateful for any insights. Thanks
Hi,

A new .tar file has been uploaded and distributed through the usual channels. Unfortunately, the certificates were incorrectly renewed, and this version is unusable, like the previous one. We'll have to wait again.

The good news is that Peugeot seems to be finally addressing the problem. ;)

Hello, good afternoon, my name is Felipe, and I'm from Chile.

I'm having a "hardware version incompatible" issue. I've tried updating my 2018 Peugeot 5008 2.0 BlueHDI without any success. If I'm not mistaken, I have the first version installed. However, I need to update to fix the issues, but I haven't had good results :(.

I've tried updating the radio by downloading updates from Google Sites and Peugeot Update. I've also changed the USB drive 5 times without any results, but I'm getting the same error every time. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me figure out what to do.

@Felipeh2

Hi,

You seem to be up to date with your mapping. Firmware version 21.05.90.42 is indeed a bit old, but it's not certain that updating it will resolve your issues.

The only version that can be installed today is the most recent one: 21.08.90.52. I assume this is the one you're trying to install. To install firmware, you need to obtain a license. Are you familiar with this?

Thank you very much for your response, my friend. I just tried again with Peugeot Update and another USB from a different brand than Sandisk and it worked for me. I have the updated version
