"Service" light and "Engine fault" message but no "check engine" light

Dear all,
It happened to me a couple of times that, on a cold start, as soon as I turn on the ignition, I get the amber "SERVICE" light on the dashboard together with a message on the LCD "Engine Fault", but no "Check engine" light. The message disappears after restarting the car once warm.

I have an OBD2 scanner (basic one), but there are no faults reported. I suspect this is because the "check engine" light is not actually on.

Has anyone had something similar? And also, do you know what tool is needed to read these types of error messages?

thanks

I've had this a number of times in last couple of weeks. Also had a brief warning sound during startup but no warnings illuminated. Majority of times it was SERVICE that flashed up. All messages quickly cleared themselves within a short time with no restart needed.

Last true fault warnings I had were around Adblue earlier this year but these stayed on and code was recorded. Was able to reset with code reader until rectified at dealer (new Adblue cap).

I though it may have been a hangover from this but I'm now attributing these bongs and messages to a cold weather anomaly but will continue to monitor just in case :thumb:

Engine light does NOT need to be on for a fault to be logged but in your case its not a fault as such its a message telling you to go get car checked as already said it could just be battery issues causing strange problems

Update

Here is an update.

I had the car checked by an official Peugeot garage and dealer. Since the light was not on on that day (obviously...) they said they could not detect any fault on the diagnostics.

How is it even possible that the car does not store faults in a log?!?!

As this happens sporadically, it will be very hard for me to bring it to the garage when the warning light is actually on!

As said above, it could be low battery. Get yourself a battery charger and let it complete its cycle. Then see if the problem goes away.
That ought to say - get yourself a good automatic (smart) charger. Old simple ones are far from the best for this.
