Daugther in law has a C8* with engine code RHT. The car had all sorts of warning lamps, then went to limp home mode,

A 'friend' of her hubbie offered to look at it, anyway after several months he offered to buy the car saying its a non runner, hmmm she drove it in there!

She got it recovered and the new garage confirm yes it now needs an engine and a turbo as the engine has run up on its own oil and its dead.

So the engine code is RHT, what options are there? If I buy say and RHY or RHW will I have problems getting the car to run?

Anything coded that needs to stay with the car( used to Mondingos with coded pumps and injectors)

Can't find a RHT at a price she can afford and I'll end up swapping the motor for the promise of beer no doubt as a good samaritan so would like to go into this without to many dramas.

Not even looked at the car myself but assume the front comes out to remove the engine and box together and I'll need nothing more than my engine hoist by way of special tools?

Hope theres an expert who can give an accurate and concise answer to my questions.

many thanks

( the old 306XTDT was such a simple beast, 270000 miles and still going strong:) )

Im puzzled, the code for the 2 litre is DW10 and 2.2 DW12 not sure where RHT comes from, change in last letters often means a minor change like the profile of the sump to suit a certain model.

The RHT comes from within the cars chassis/VIN number which I'm led to believe identifies the engine code

well it sees that you can't go by power output,

RHT, RHW seem to have a different head, certainly an RHY is no good as witnessed by the engine sitting on my drive.

Nope, cant find an engine at a price that makes the car worth doing, also got the RHY that I bought to get rid of.

So the car sits lurched on the drive disembowelled:mad:

Remove your injectors and replace the rockers you do NOT need a new engine or head unless you cannot get the injectors out

RHT RHW are same engine only minor external bolt on parts change they are both DW10 16 valve ENGINES

RHY RHZ RHS are also DW10 but only 8 valve these can be fitted but you need a complete doner vehicle its not a direct swap various parts are different.

Broken belt only breaks rockers no bent valves no head removal required I have done at least 40 of these both 8 and 16 valve never seen a bent valve except on 1 driven through a puddle :)

Just a few £, rockers are £8 each on ebay provided you can remove the injectors. Google C8 Centre for a video of the tool used to pull them out. You could fit a new belt and start the engine see how it goes. If not running OK then loosen injector bolts a little and see if injector(s) will come out.
Don't forget you will probably need a new water pump.
