RHR fits only real difference in the blocks are the rear mount for the driveshaft is slightly different meaning you cannot get all the bolts in but i have done a few they fit and work fine you just swap a few bits from old engine like turbo and some other brackets

Brilliant, thanks. Are the cylinder heads the same? I could probably get away with just changing the head

Over heating and burning oil. I just want to know what I'm getting into before I start. If I get an engine I'm covered.

Well a head is not going to fix it just get a whole engine

As i say RHR fits fine and once bolted in place you would not know the difference plenty out there in peugeots and citroens remove the whole front of van and its simple to get engine out pull it out with gearbox and separate it on floor as its easier to get at everything then.

Get a WELL SERVICED one low mileage is NO guarantee of goodness servicing is what keeps them good.

Ok thanks. I was just thinking the problem could be valve guides and seal's as it's overheated several times so I would have taken the head off first. That's why I asked about the head. I will keep my eye open for an RHR now. Thanks again

Changing the head would take much longer than changing the whole engine as some of the bolts are very hard to get at due to the front stopping you reaching in then the way its built if you are not familiar with the engine there are so many potential mistakes everything needs to go back on in the right order.

We had a full spare engine and box and when we needed to we just swapped the whole unit then repaired the damaged one on the bench ready for the next van that needed it

I would not attempt a head swap in the van in a 407 etc yes but not in the van :)
