Water most likely made it way to the camera or wiring near it, would need to investigate this and remedy. If the vehicle still under warranty, make it their problem.

Camera was replaced and worked well for 3 weeks then started operating intermittently again in mid December. Not rain as where I live it has not rained since new camera was installed. Camera goes black in reverse but when shifted to drive the front camera comes on.

 

Check the camera harness that goes inside one of those rubber tubes (near the hinges) you can see when you open the boot. That's precisely the spot where it is usually damaged.
