Replacing both drive shafts on my 106. Old ones came out really easy but am struggling to get the new ones to slide right through the splined hole in both hubs. The old and new shafts look identical and have the same number of splines. I can get both shafts to slide into the splined hole such that about an 3/4 inch of thread is protruding and the hub nut can be fitted. But there is not enough thread protruding to put the hub nut fully on. I have tried tapping the hubs to push the shaft through and also tightening the hub nut to the correct torque in the hope that it pulls both splined shafts all the way through. Neither method has worked.

The old shafts slide neatly through the splined hole in the hub without any struggling.

Anybody else had this problem and what was the solution?

Thanks

Chris

I noticed this when we did my brothers 106, i think the threaded section on the new shafts is shorter, alsong as they are tight and you have knocked the nut into the cut out on the shaft so it cant come undone then you should be fine. If you are unsure then get a mechanic to have a look for you.

Just out of curiosity, did you get new shafts from Euro car parts??

No mine were not from Euro car parts.

Problem is that the thread will not come through far enough for the top of the nut to go into the cut out. The end of the thread is about 10mm short of the front edge of the nut.

I would measure the length of the threads on the old shaft and then on the new shafts, see if there is any difference.

Cant think of much else.

Any chance of you posting a pic of an old and new shaft side by side. See if more eye could spot a problem.

BTW put your location on you profile, someone with lots more knowledge could be round the corner and willing to help

Spoken to the motor factors and he is going to get another pair of shafts + a set shown to match a slightly earlier model of car. Collecting this evening and will see if either of these fit.

Thanks 407XJR for the photo idea. I will take some pictures tonight. I have also added my location (Romsey in Hampshire) to my profile.
