Hi,

Just had a quick go at replacing my accessories belt.

I got the wheel liner off and now I can see most of the assembly. I don't have a lift so this job is a little bit more complicated for me due to lack of access.

How do I get the tensioner to back off? There is surprisingly little information about this job on the internet so I must be missing something...

Diagram attached.. I need to get part nr #2 off. I can see the tensioner but not sure how to get it to release tension so I can change the belt.

You put a long ring spanner on the bolt head on the pivot and turn it towards the front of the car- clockwise. Most have a locking hole in them so you can put a pin/bent piece of wire through to hold the tensioner in place in the released position while you put the new belt on but not familiar with your particular model so unsure exactly what it might have. Is also normally quite tricky to get to the pinning hole so a bent piece of no8 wire is normally the best thing to use,

Yeh that's the bit for the ring spanner to go onto, and then the screw in the pic just above and to the right is the locking part, so you need push that in once taken the tension off with the ring spanner, will need a big screwdriver to force it in, should hear a small click, then release the ring spanner and belt will be loose. Then undo the water pump friction wheel tab and you be able to take the belt off.

Typical, none of my spanners fit on it, I have sockets big enough but due to the fact that the engine bay is cramped I can't get that on there to twist either.

Are there any tricks to getting this thing off? I'd rather not go for a long drive to the shop to stock up on yet more tools that I will only ever use once!

i just use a jack and a length of wood on the arm roller, jack up slowly until you can pop the lock pin in (i havnt got a spanner that fits also)

It's a 15mm ring spanner, might as well buy a cheap one if you only use it for this job. However you moght find more fasteners needing a 15mm, like drop links for example.

service box has it as 21mm and 23mm ring spanner. Sure it's the 21mm side u need.

Its not a 15 - I've got everything up to 15mm in my kit but they were too small. It'll be a 21/23.

Got the job done. Piece of piss with the right tools :rolleyes:
