Hi all.

2005 407 2.0HDI with DPF

A few questions that I hope you can help me with.

1. How do I know when my car is regenerating?

2. How do I force it to do it? (without plugging in planet)

3. What are the symptoms of a clogged DPF?

Heres my problem. I've been lurking here and 407 owners trying to find a solution but no luck yet.

Intermittently I will loose turbo boost, usually driving up a hill or out of a roundabout under load. The car doesnt get a limp mode rev limit, just loss of boost. If I pull over, switch engine off and restart 30secs later it works again.

Using a code reader I kept getting P1351 for glow plugs. Fitted new ones 2 weekends ago but it still does it.

Does anyone think a clogged DPF could be causing the car to shut the turbo wastegate as it is being over restricted by the DPF?

Any advice is appreciated :)

1) You hear the fan

2) Drive for 20 mins on motorway in 4th gear, keep revs over 3000. DON'T let them fall below!

3) "Anti-pollution fault" on screen.

Thanks Gibbo. I'll try that out.

Still struggling to get to the bottom of the loss of boost. Might be worth pressure washing the DPF?

I also cleaned the EGR out last weekend.

Does anyone has Planet near the Huddersfield area and is willing to plug my car in? Willing to reimburse you for your time :)

Ive just has something very similar with mine and with a dose of redex diesel treatment and a new fuel filter it has gone away.

As for regens youll know as your exhaust will sound like its got a hole in it.

Drivers and passenger door mirrors will heat up on its own when regenerating :thumb:

Thanks for replying guys.

I'll try the 3000rpm+ drive for 20mins this weekend.

Seb', I did the fuel filter and redex treatment about 5000mile ago :( No luck there.

CAB, I might have to take you up on the offer, Doncaster isn't far. I think it would help a lot having some proper error feedback and some parameters from DPF system.

Thanks again everyone!

You can tell its running from a combination of the fore mentioned signs...
- mirrors heat (ok, you can't tell on a dry day, but a wet day you can
- heated rear windscreen heats up (ditto)
- engine has a deeper tone when low revs in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears
- in 4th gear, around 1900rpm ish the car may tend to lurch around a bit (mine does anyway)

You can tell if you touch the mirrors thats how i have always known.

How are they activated?

Can't find anything in the owners manual and I've not seen a button for them.
