Real life mpg of real drivers

Dear all,

We know we all drive differently, and we know that official mpg figures are laboratory values (they are only good to compare different cars together, if that).

Also, I noticed that the in car mpg counter could be really, really wrong. Not sure how they measure but I think it shows a better value than the reality.

They are some tools you can use to monitor your real mpg. It is very straight forward : each time you refuel, mark the volume, price and total mileage of the car at times of filling. It is easier to do so by refuelling the tank fully each time.

Some use spreadsheet, paper, website, etc. On my side I use a German tool called spritmonitor : https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/
(I'm not related to them, I'm just a user).

An example of result with my previous car :

I have started a new one for my 3008, which will be filled over time :
https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/detail/896355.html

If others want to do the same (whatever the website, I'm not fuss!), no problem for me to add them on this page 1 thread.

To be noted that there are apps available for iphone and android which does the management really easy. On my side, I simply write down the mileage after I refilled and when I have a cup of coffee on the next service I fill the app.

https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/spritmonitor/id616137163?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4

Later on I will add some sort of how to for beginners, maybe adding some screenshots of iPhone app, etc.

What do you think ?

Well, if you are like me and like to monitor your fuel consumption it's a practical way to do it.

On my side I need to do so to get my mileage back and check if I loose money on my business trips or not.

Nothing compulsory obviously, but for those interested I can help and there is this thread :)

Hi Maxy,

while I see what you're hoping to accomplish, I fear it maybe a little to complicated for most to even think about let alone do.

It is Sunday morning after all!

I use Road Trip for iPhone, doesn't take any time at all to complete at each fill-up. The app shows numerous statistics including average monthly running costs and I've just noticed my anticipated yearly mileage is 10032 so I'm on course to be within my PCP annual limit.

No problem, you are now in ! :)
Thanks for your comment about which model, I added the years.
