Have a 207 1.6 16v 2007. Have a bad knock from around the auxiliary side of the engine. Definitely not timing chain or big end. The noise is gone when I remove the auxiliary belt. Could this be the water pump?

If its the prince engine could be the on demand water pump related as its driven off the back of the belt

Yes it’s the prince engine. I was thinking it could have been that. I must remove that unit and have a look. Very harsh knocking sounded a lot worse than I think it actually is.

This damaged belt was causing all the racket after all. Top tensioner was seized up and caused stress to the belt. Sounded like the engine was loosing the bottom end. Simple fix in the end.

been seeing a lot of the aux belts like that recently with the age of the cars now,


I’d say the seized tensioner didn’t help it. It was causing the friction wheel tensioner to shake and sounded a lot worse.

the dynamic tensioner? as long as wasn't loose it would been fine.

do a lot of timing jobs on these engines, and last 15 or so have done when the aux belt is removed its missing lots of pieces all the way thru it, just not ageing well lol

when mine went it was day after had done my clutch started the car and was like omfg the bottom end is done !! heart and stomach sinking feeling!!

Crazy the racket it makes!
This tensioner was solid so the belt was under a lot of stress.
