Having placed an order for a 3008 Auto GT with Grip Control through a broker was feeling okay about the latest delivery of June 7th
Since then have seen the chaotic information given to customers from dealers/Peugeot
Here is the question- as I don't have a dealer to quiz/bash about the head- does that mean that information posted relates purely to those buying through dealers?
What about those going through brokers, is our situation the same/ worse or better?

Broker

Hi
I tried to reply to your private message but wouldn't let me sorry.
My broker is great, they ring me every week with update or not as is the case on build date etc. My advise would be ring your broker and ask for updates whenever you like, no reason why they can't do it, if not as long as you have your order number ring Peugeot direct and they can update you from their system, assuming they dare tell the truth if the delay is big !!!

I ordered mine on a PCP with a broker- they won't let me have the order number. The broker told me that the large discount they are giving me ( approx 25% off) is a fleet discount. If I were to contact Peugeot apparently they wouldn't be happy with what the broker is doing and my order could get cancelled. My car will be pre registered to the broker, then registered to me. Not sure if this is the norm ( not allowed the order number) when buying this way? Anyhow I chase my broker every couple of weeks for an update and he always gets back to me pretty quick.

I don't know, it could be any one of those.
(a fleet order *may* have priority).

I've ordered through a broker - uk-car-discount.
Placed it on 8th Feb and not a word since.
Not that I expected any.
Del time was given as 18 weeks at that time.
I'll give it another month then enquire of them.

I would assume your delays will be the same. I'm not aware of Peugeot favouring direct customers over fleet for delivery. All dealers and fleet accounts are given tranches of cars to sell in a period. If they sell them all they can negotiate more for the next period and if they can't sell them their tranche can be reduced(this is why they often pre-register cars). Noone knows whether any specific dealer or fleet account has sold all of their cars for the period, but if they have they may not have actually ordered your car at all. Only guarantee is peugeot order number, and as brokers don't like to give them out in this situation you are a bit blind.

I avoided new car discount for this reason, although they are one of the cheapest the car isn't registered to you for at least 90 days, and hence you can't legally insure it without lying to insurer. Some brokers like broker4cars just arrange a deal on a car supplied by a franchised dealer.

I know they pre-register but the 90 days things is new to me - there is no mention on their website .......

"At the point your vehicle leaves the Manufacturer it is allocated to a Franchise Dealer where it will undergo its comprehensive Pre-Delivery Inspection & valet at which point we will contact you with a registration number and book delivery with you.

The vehicle is registered, taxed and delivered by the supplying dealer free. On delivery we ask you to inspect the vehicle and make sure it is exactly what you ordered. Once you are happy with the vehicle all we ask is you call the delivery department to confirm you have accepted delivery. You don't pay a penny until this point (unlike lots of other dealers, we don't take final payment until your new car is delivered to your door).

Once you have spoken to the delivery team they will ask accounts to confirm receipt of payment and issue you with a final invoice. The final VAT invoice will show the vehicle has been paid for in full and title transferred."

They also get excellent reviews here....

Toneb. I'm not saying they are bad in any way. I have no experience with them, i'm sure they will do exactly as they say they will.

Just be informed. In order for them to acquire fleet purchase discounts they have to register the car in their own name or a subsidiary's for 3-6mths as agreed under their fleet arrangements with the manufacturer. This means you are not the owner of the car on delivery, and you will not recieve the logbook. When your insurer asks are you the owner of the car you will not legally be able to say you are(many insurers will not provide cover under this arrangement).
I got a quote from them with approx 8k off, but when I asked if the car would be registered first to me they said no, maybe that's not the case with your deal with them.

I assume most people who buy cars in this way just tell a white lie to the insurers. I'm not judging you in any way if you do, it's largely just a technicality. Just it's not something that sits well with me personally.

From their terms and conditions

"b. In taking advantage of some of our manufacturer offers we have a two tier discount structure in place. This means that there maybe a short delay in receiving the V5 in your name back from DVLA. Please ask if you are concerned or unsure as this only affects a small section of our new car offers ."

I'm not sure that's entirely true pinkaardvark. I am leasing my car on private lease so will not own my car at any point yet I can insure it no problem. That's what I've been doing for the last 3 years anyway. How that plays out with fleet purchasing I don't know but you can insure cars you don't own. It's just like hiring a car I guess.

You can insure the car, but you should not lie to the insurer. They always ask "who is the registered owner" to which you should answer, the fleet frachise. After 90 days (or whenever you get v5) you can then change the policy to declare that you are now the owner.

Problem is that this can jack up the price of the policy. If you have a lease car I assume you need to do the same or your insurance isn't technically valid.

Update from the Broker- delivery for the GTs in particular is 16 weeks( as I was advised at the time of ordering, February 23rd).
I'm half way through that time and am keeping fingers crossed that if it's not early, at least it's not later!!!

Hi Toneb. Any news on your vehicle? I ordered a couple of weeks after you (Feb 23rd)but also with UK Car Discount.
Don't know if we have the same spec(GT with Grip Control)?
They've just given me a build date of May 17th which fits with the original delivery date of June 7th.
