Trying to program a new unused key but Diagbox reports "Transponder not Present" I have attached a picture of the circuit board and I assume the transponder chip is the bit on the left of the picture. Is there a way to check that the chip is working and or compatible? It was a key sold as compatible with Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroen Relay. Is there anything an auto locksmith can do in this regard that I can't do on diagbox?

On a more general note can someone explain how key transponder programming works. When the key is first programmed there is a code sent to the transponder chip that is recognised by the BSI and the car will start. The chip can only be programmed once. If the keys are reprogrammed and this key is not included then it will no longer start the car. Now presumably if the keys are programmed yet again with this key included then it will again work, whereas a second hand key will never work. I would have assumed that once a key was programmed then it would always work no matter what. Is it perhaps that the BSI remembers all the codes that have been programmed but only allows those used in the last key programming session to work.
With regard to the remote control door locking is there any connection between the transponder chip and the remote controls? For example can you put a genuine key in the ignition turn on and press the lock button on a second hand key to program it to work the central locking only?

thanks David

A Peugeot boxer fiat Ducato and Citroen relay is on a fiat system, fiat keys work different to Peugeot keys, when you but a fiat key from dealers it is ordered to chassis number and comes with a code on it so it will only program to that chassis number and yes it still needs programming it's called pre code data, if you buy a blank key it does not have this precode data and you need some specialist equipment to get it out of the vehicle.

Peugeot keys that are on a Peugeot system not a fiat system do not have this precode data and a blank chip/Key will program

Ok so my Diagbox equipment is no use in this case. Its just that it went through the whole process as if it should have worked. Does that mean that a locksmith needs the vehicle to be able to code the key? I do have the electronic code.
You said the key comes from fiat and will only program to that chassis number. Does that mean a 2 stage programming process. Is diagbox used for the second part of the process?

the key you have is blank and needs precode data writing to it, any good vehicle locksmith can do this, also there is 2 types of remote delphi and magneti marreli

the key you get from a dealer has precode on it so planet will work with that
