Hi!
I have a 1.6 2006 with 2 tronic

I have three problems I wonder if someone else also has and what solution they had.

1. The sliding doors sometimes open by self even if I left the car looked. That means that when I come out to the car in the morning the left door is wide open and who know for how long time? The car has been in the shop several times and the problem has been away for about 9 month now but just the other day it happen again.

2. Just when the car was new, about 4 month old, I had some electrical problem. There was a warning sound about the same as when the fuel level is low and the display show some message about no charging. The dealer had it back but “couldn’t find anything wrong” with the car and it happen about 10 times in 2 month. The dealer looked at it 3 times but never saw anything. After that the problem has come about once or twice a year but normally goes away after I stop the motor and restart again when it is cold.

3. A new thing that just happens is that I can’t start the car sometimes. I had figured it out that it has to do something with the gear… I guess that there are some kinds of switch on the gearbox that indicate that it’s in neutral and allows starting the engine? Anyway I can hear some noise from the gearbox like it try to change gear even if I has stopped the motor and it does that for some 4-6 times and after that the display change to show some lines instead of what gear I have. If I go out and manually push the car with a gear in it can be started again.

Besides from this I really love the car.

Welcome to the fourm!

The door is a worry - I wonder what could cause that!?! Is the alarm switched off when the door is opened? Do you double lock the doors? I wonder if there is something wrong with the switching... possibly if the inside switch was faulty it would open. Double lockingusually disables internal switches. Being such a "rare" problme, it could be with the car all its days unless it gets worse, which would mean you could find it!

Is the car under any form of warranty?

We have a few 1007 owners here, so hopefully one will be along to compair notes with you!

About the Doors I had seen the same problem from a few others on the net so it should not be a unique problem for me and my car. The bad thing is that nobody seems to really know what is wrong. (Try to link to some page but don’t know if it working if not only copy n paste and change the XXX to WWW).

I have no alarm, maybe should install that so I can hear if the doors open, or maybe it don’t work that way? I’m not sure If I double lock or not. Sometimes I do and sometimes not so if I did the night before they open I don’t know but will try to do every times from now. The warranty is still on so that’s not really the problem it’s more that the shop can’t find anything and the feeling to not be sure if the doors open when I leave the car:-(

About the gear problem I’m not sure but is it not the same motor and gearbox as some other, maybe more common, model? If so, maybe they had the same problem?

I'm curious -what do you mean by double-locking? I can only think you mean locking with the remote and then putting the key in the lock and turning it -but wouldn't that just unlock the car again?:confused:

Strangely, your gearbox problem sounds exactly the same as one I used to get on a Smart+Passion - right down to the three bars on the display. Maybe Peugeot sourced the parts from the same supplier.

The problem was usually the electrical clutch actuator, which could play up, need adjustment, or wear out. It could also be the clutch itself - at least that's what it was on our Smart.

That's when we decided enough was enough and flogged it as a non-runner to a Smart specialist!

Strangely, your gearbox problem sounds exactly the same as one I used to get on a Smart+Passion - right down to the three bars on the display.
Our 1.6 sport 1007 had that problem, though the display was different - it came up "gearbox fault" on the main display.
Our went in under warranty, they changed sensors and things and it made no difference.
Then they loaded a software update.
It still goes "bing" but then it resets and ignores the fault!


We have had the door problem too, but I put it down to the keys being in my pocket and occasionally as I bend over the buttons get pressed. I've had my smart diesel unlock too, and that again I think is button press in the pocket.
Since I've been very careful about tight trousers and keys - it hasn't happened!

Do I need to diet or buy bigger trousers I wonder :)


We had door problems with the electric closing opening again, eventually I noticed the interior handle was sticking in the rear position, so the car probably thought I was an idiot closing the door with the dash button and then pulling the lever to open the door as soon as it closed.
Didn't take much silicon lubricant to fix that one.


My 5 smarts on the other hand, that's another story of ghosts in the SAM :(

If you press the lock button on the remote twice it 'double locks' the lock or deadlocks it, don't know if this is on all models but I have it on my 308.

Oh we love it.
Happy owners here :)

The gearbox problem was reprogrammed as soon as the update was available.
The lumpy clutch was traced to a mounting, replaced under warranty.

Apart from that, the car has been more reliable than my Roadster.
OK it needs a 1.6 engine to go as fast as my city cabrio :)
But it might even go as fast as my Roadster!

It has all the room we need for the electric scooter, where we can only get the wheelchair in the roadster, and the sesame doors are much better for getting in and out.

Oh and it has blue plastic interior, and exchangeable dial rims, and exchangeable trims.
Like the original smart only better.

Get a diagnostic check done on the gearbox ecu and the sliding door ecu. Post faults up here.
These are the main problems in these cars and it is very hard to find people who know about them.
