hello everyone
im alex and this is my first post here and im desperate for advice

bought this car 3 weeks ago its a 307 2.0hdi 90 on a 52plate
i got all the belts done the next day plus water pump etc
ran great done near 1000 miles in 3 weeks
THEN..........

started the car up ran for a minute and died
#AA man looked it over and done some tests. i think he bridged a fuse 15amp and came to the conclusion that the in tank pump has packed in working. said the voltage was nil and it wasnt pumping fuel to the main pump. he told me that looking at his data the in tank pump should supply the main high pressure pump with fuel at 2bar of pressure. and it wasnt

#gave my local garrage the AA advisory sheet and they quoted me £197 n i advised them to do it.
5:00 today. phone call..... BAD NEWS ALEX. weve changed the in tank pump and it still wont fire. weve aso held a diesel feed direct to the high pressure pump and its not sucking the diesel so we think the main engine pump has broke internaly it will be £647

NOW IF THATS IT THATS IT BUT
#mr AA said the in tank pump feeds diesel at 2 bar. holding a litre of diesel above the engine pump will not create 2 bar pressure.

#my friend mechanic advises me tgeres a relay or something that if broken will cut power to the in tank pump and stop the high pressure engine pump working..... he told me he strongly thinks its not the main pump. said the garage should of fed the tank pump with a live feed from the engine to teat it?........

# is this all wishfull thinking from me and bad advive from the AA man and my friend?
should i pay the garage £647 or take the car out and look into it further myself?

Ask the garrage if there is any metal fragments in the fuel filter, if there is then the high pressure pump is had it!
If there is not then very unlikely.
The high pressure pump is belt driven, not electronic and the tank pump is a lift pump to get fuel from tank to high pressure pump.
It is standard practice to use a can of diesel with a hand primer to test the fuel circuit.

so rang this morning and spoke to head mechanic. (he didnt do the work)
i asked is he sure its not something small and daft ect. he said he doesnt like to 2nd guess his mechanics work but hel go over my car and check himself.

right mate when we phoned the pump specialists we thought ur pump was bosch but its a siemens pump which is unusual. we rang tge pump guys back and tgey askes does it have a pipe with a **cant remember wat** on it. we told tgem it does and they loaned us this pipe. we fitted it and your peugeot is running fine. weve got to return this pioe and its a dealer part we can have one ordered and fitted tomorro.... were sorry we missed this.....

i couldnt be happier right now guys

Epic!

You could have paid nearly £700 for an unecessary replacement pump! But good to see its sorted. Sounds like a fuel supply pipe with a check valve of some sort (non-return valve) which may have been blocked.

Good effort though!

thanks. im mega happy with the rusult. cant grasp why wen they fed the pump direct it wouldnt start.
maybe its not a not non return thing. he said its a something block i thing but cant remember. just keepin fingers crossed the fitting goes strateforward tomoro and i get my car bak trouble free for a while

if the garage changed the pump in tank then its a bosch system and a bosch system does not have a primer. I think it has a one way valve but is built into the fuel filter housing.

if its a siemens system how did the aa man check there is no voltage to the pump when there is none and more importantly HOW did the garage change the low pressure pump when there is not one fitted??? . I think the garage is telling porkies?

SOMEONE is telling porkies that's for sure

IF it is siemens and they fitted an in tank pump it would pressurise the primer bulb and burst it !!

ALL siemens have primer and no pump in tank

HP output has no bearing on what pumps etc are fitted although nearly all 110hp are bosch with tank pump

90 has either regardless of model of car.

Too many contradictions here I think someone is having your trousers down to fix their mistake.

all seems so confusing to me.
theyv definitly changed the in tank pump iv seen the old one and a friend works there.
plus its definitly got a siemens high pressure pump :-s

the jist i got today is the systems letting in a lot of air. mainly the stretch of pipe with the hand priming bulb on it. at first they thought hand primer had been added at some point in the cars life as it looked out of place and held with jubilee clips on a clear section of fuel pipe.

They are having a laugh take it to someone who knows what they are talking about

Hand primer = NO PUMP in tank !!!!

AS I already said if they fitted a tank pump they have no doubt broken something else as the power feeds WILL be live even with a siemens system so the tank pump WILL energise.

Im not surprised its leaking if it has the wrong parts fitted !

well after gibbos post it clearly says its a siemens system which means NO pump in tank. I think you need to have a talk to the garage and your friend who works there and don,t pay for a pump for a car which never had one fitted.

i dont need to pay for the in tank pump as u say there aint one.
i had this conversatiin today about the tank pump and id been missled by someone in garrage maybe confused with the parts. theyv told me the systems sucking in silly amou ts of air through the section of pipe with tge priming bulb on and causing fuel to run back to tank?. and another section. these pipes didnt arrive today as thought but been garanteed when they arrive il have my car bak running sweet
