Hi all, I'm dougie and new to the group and new to the 406 td 2.1
I have just purchased the car, seemed fine when was looking at it, the old owner took me out for a test drive and all seemed ok. After paying for the car and on way home with what I thought was my next project, the first issue reared it's head, when I depressed the clutch the revs proper spiked over 7000 rpm, only happened 2 times
. I got the car home parked it up on the driveway as a fewfriends came round I went out and started the car up again all seemed fine
The following day, I went out and the car wouldn't start at all, the battery about died trying
A neighbour got his jumper leads out and after about 10 minutes it fired up, I left the motor running for a while to ensure battery had some life in it, turned off and tried tO start, sheared straight up
The following morning I went out and same issue just won't start and battery goes flat
There appears to be some air in the clear tube after the pump is this normal? Can anyone please help shed somelight on my issue

2.1 has glowplugs I would start by testing them

Some small bubbles Iin the fuel WILL NOT MATTER

DON'T KEEP FLATTENING THE BATTERY you could loose your key codes !!

NO JUMPLEADS

revving itself COULD be turbo seals leaking oil into intake but may also be because old dude never revved it much and oil has built up keep an eye on oil level and do not overfill

Yes 2.1 is D8 and if the glowplugs don't work it wont start there are other possibilities like comms with the fuel pump but glowplugs TESTED first

Key codes are stored in the immobiliser control box and if lost it will not start D8 does not have the same system as later models but it still has immobiliser unless you have a keypad code depends on age either way jumpstarting not good :)

That's the immobiliser keypad there should be a 4 digit code to enter BUT it can be disabled so it may have been what colour are the lights with ignition on ?

If no lights then its been disabled

So am I right in thinking if I took the battery off to replace for a new one I'd need the four digit code
That I don't have

Keypad is probably redundant then so no need to worry about that :)

So we are back to check the glowplugs are working

Fuel filter would need to be pretty dirty to affect starting and it would also affect running
