Hello,

Im having a bit of trouble installing planet! I downloaded it from this site (version 22.14), and extracted it, but when I try to install it it starts up, then goes through the language selection etc, then stops and says 'The installation of your application has failed. Please restart the work station and repeat the installation. If the procedure fails again, contact the assistance helpline. Confirm to end.'

I have also tried an older version that I have on disk (21.12) and have used before, and it does the same thing. System is a recently installed XP SP3.

I have tried searching the forum - i found references to having to create a file or something before installing, dont know if this is possibly the problem? Anyway, the link I found to an instruction file was dead.

If anybody could advise that would be great.

Cheers

Stuart

*Important Note:
Please create a blank txt file named ‘version’ in C:\
Hey. Thanks for your quick reply :)

Unfortunately it still isnt working. I created a blank version.txt file in C:\ and still the same. I had the files extracted to a folder on the D drive so i created an identical file in D:\ and tried it, no luck. Then tried copying the files across to a folder in the C drive and running it, still the same, with both versions of planet. My next plan is to mount the image as a drive and try it that way. I dont understand it really, I had planet installed before but formatted and reinstalled XP now no it just doesnt work! God knows!

Find all values for pp2000 and Lexia with Regedit and delete , then start again
Couldnt find any entries for Lexia, found a few for PP2000 so deleted them all. Tried again, noticed that after I had deleted the registry entries the setup programme asked me which drive to install to again, but it starts then just fails the same as before. :nono:

Since it worked before but not now and the only difference is the fresh XP then it looks like thats the problem , maybe another fresh load of XP.

Oh well...

Formatted and reinstalled XP SP3, got it up and running and just installed drivers, nothing else not even anti-virus, firefox, anything! Again I created the version.txt file as above. And still the same. So, I guess the problem must lie with this version of windows. Its a different install CD than I used last time, but still XP SP3. Guess nobody has heard of any problems with SP3 before?

When I used it previously, I had it running in an XP SP2 virtual environment running in vmware in linux, and it worked great. I just switched back to windows because I found myself using the virtual environment so often it seemed silly not to. Think it would be worth trying an SP2 install maybe?

Driving me crazy!

The 'Version.txt' file is only needed when you install Lexia.... PP2000 installs without any mods at all.... at least it did on mine.

I have found this on another forum hope it might be of use

I got Lexia 3 up and running with the latest update but Peugeot Planet won't even star installing...

When I execute "InstPC" to begin the installation process I get the recommendations to plug the laptop to the power outlet, restart the workstation and close all the apps. I've done all this and pressed OK and chose English as my language. and pressed OK again.

Then it says "Portable being updated - Please Wait"

And it immediately halts the installation with the following message: "The installation of your application has failed. Please restart the work station and repeat the installation" If the procedure fails again, contact the assistance helpline. Confirm to end"

I've restarted and tried everything I don't know what else to do...

EDIT: OK I managed to install it by using the regular setup.exe instead of the InstPC, I don't know if I will miss out on some features but it seems to be working OK.

Ill run windows update and see what happens, you never know!

I tried just running setup.exe, it brings up a white isntaller screen with a progress bar at the bottom, the bar fills up to 100% then the thing just sits there doing nothing, so doesnt seem to work for me.

Damn computer.

success

After all that, i just copied the whole install to the root of a usb stick and ran it from there and it worked fine. I guess it didnt like the path I was trying to install it from before. Strange I dont remember having to do that before, but all is well, cheers for the advice folks. :D:D
