Gents,

As some of you have mentioned to me, a lot of my guides are now photoless. It seems that Photobucket have just stopped allowing direct picture links, and all of my pictures were hosted with PhotoBucket. They want a yearly subscription of $399 to allow direct linking now. Extortionate!

Read More Here

They are getting a lot of stick of this (See their Twitter account) for this. I really hope they go back on this, and because I am hopeful I am going to give it a few days before uploading all the pictures elsewhere.

It will in time happen to everyone hosting direct links to photos.

Let me know what you think!

I had a few on photobucket after dropbox stopped the public folder and linking to images on there. Just been to my photobucket account and can se just two of my images in each album as the images don't scroll with the page.

They'll get nothing from me and they are quite welcome to keep my images taking up room on their storage as they have also removed the download link for the images as far as I can tell. On top of that, at times you can barely see the page because of the size and number of ads that keep popping up - even with a popup blocker running. It's worse than all the scam and porn ads you had to encounter when you visited warez sites many many years ago.

Photobucket more or less signed their own death warrant with this one I think. The free account holders are just not going to pay and at the prices they are charging they aren't going to get too many new customers if any at all.

That's the problem with fatcat corporations and the super rich people. If they had all the money in the world it still wouldn't be enough. First Dropbox, now Photobucket - who'll be next ?

Its an absolute shambles the way they have handled this. No notice before doing it, and automated responses for people affected by it.

I noticed in the BBC News Article about it that people with eBay and Amazon listings have been affected. I never even thought about that. people running shops on eBay with 500+ items using photo bucket.

That's a weeks work to fix this problem unless they pay. And i have not seen anywhere that if you do pay, your existing links will work?

Sorry to hear that :( I am a photographer and for the same reason always host on my own domain and site. That's the way of the world unfortunately....they think you are making money from the guides so they want their cut. More to the point is what will they do with YOUR images that they have pulled. I bet they keep them and the small print says they have the right to use them. Sod's Law....photography and image rights, laws is a minefield.

Well it looks like PhotoBucket are not going to reverse this decision so they can stick their account up........

I am going to move my images to Imgur (free for now) and start replacing the links with photos in my guides to Imgur.

Let me know if you find anymore and ill try and get them all done soon!
