I have 2002 Peugeot expert 2.0Hdi panel van
I have no idea what I have done, the van was working fine apart from failing the mot due to faulty AIR BAG light - dim glow.
I decided to tackle this thinking it was a simple short circuit or faulty bulb.
So I took the dash out and hunted around looking for any clues but without success. eventually I had to put the van on my drive as the tax had also run out.
About a week later I decided to remove the air bag bulb just to get an MOT and so get mobile again - not the right thing to do I know.
Here is when the problem started.
The van just wont start and the STOP light is flashing continuously
it cranks over fine and sometimes feel like it will start - it seems to fire occasionally.
In doing more research, I borrowed someones error code gizmo and it shows error code 380 which shows as glow plug/heater circuit A.
This does tie in with the symptoms as the fan, aircon etc doesn't work when I turn on the ignition.
I have checked all the fuses and they are all fine, The battery is in excellent condition and has been trickle charged.
now whats weird is that sometimes when it turns over, and tries to fire, the blower comes on but then turns off again.
As I said, I checked all the fuses but not the relays as I don't know where the relevant fuse for the heater/glow plugs is. I can hear a couple of relays click in the engine compartment, one of which I presume is the glow plug relay.
I would very much appreciate any help/advice :)etc

Well, first off removing the airbag light is an immediate MOT failure as the tester will be checking to see if it illuminates when the ignition is first turned on! Bad move.

The electrics not working could be that it is in Economy Mode so all unnecessary electrics are disabled until the engine has been running.

AN error code gizmo will tell you very little so your best bet now is to either get a dealer or very competent independent to take a look at it or use the PP map to find someone close to you who can use the correct diagnostic to try and find out what is the problem.

thanks for your prompt reply storeman.
As you said, I know realize that removing the light is a failure too.
Interesting comment about the running mode, All the other electrics appear to work ok including electric windows, lights/indicators etc.
I am hoping that this is something simple like a relay - I cant figure out which relay runs which circuit tho.

Hi mate - the glow-plug fault is nothing to worry about, most Hdis I've diagnosed have this fault and unless you are at -15c then they are not really needed..

The fan and aircon won't work without the engine actually running, so not really a fault either.

Has the transponder lost sync with the key?

No airbag light is not a fail it is a pass and advise, light on is fail
There seems to be a lot of debate about this subject but I believe that according to the rules the airbag light must briefly illuminate (when it does the system check) and then go out, If it doesn't come on at all and it's present or it comes on and stays on then it's a fail.

This seems to be logical to me because if I was an MOT tester and the light didn't come on during the systems check then the first thing that would go through my mind would be that there is an airbag fault and the warning light had been removed or disabled to hide it.

However, some MOT inspectors have told people that this isn't a failure but I would rather not take the chance. Besides, do you really want to drive around in a car with faulty airbags. I wouldn't want to just in case.

Thanks for the heads up on the blower/aircon:thumb: thats one less to chase down.
what would cause the STOP light to flash - I am guessing this could be immobilizing the engine? - is there a way of bypassing the immobilizer?

How can I check the transponder/key? it unlocks the doors, so I guess that means its ok?

There should be a red light on top of dash when you turn ignition on it should go out if it does the key is ok and being read ok

these don't do economy mode so blower should work

Immobilisers cannot be bypassed what would be the point of them then ?
