I bought a Peugeot 407 sw for second hand.
It seemed that the previous owner had maintained it badly and had not run it for quite a while.

There are a few problems i cant seem to find the solution to:

1)It has a tiptronic gear box.Whenever i put it to drive and apply brakes a vibration occurs throughout the car, this vibration is so high that it makes the back number plate rattle making a noise which is quite embarrassing.

The mechanics tried to solve the problem and replaced the engine mounts which were worn out. This did not solve the problem. They also replaced the gear box mounts on a previous occasion but the vibration continued until now.:nono:

2)This is about the gear box.
I have been experiencing problems in which the car does not shift gears properly in auto.In most times the gear shifts are late making the engine rev too much.
I replaced the gear box oil but it made little change.
One mechanic who is very good in electronics in Peugeots said its not the gear box oil thats the problem.

Could you give solutions to these problems?

Hi,
Don't think I can help but just said I'd reply since I'm kind of in the same boat.

I just recently bought a 407 SW myself and I seem to have bought loads of problems with it. Think I have a dodgy gearbox mount too (according to the previous owner) but it's way down on my list. A lovely car but loads of issues!

Is the braking sound a vibration from the discs, like a grating or a squeaking? Or is it the whole car shaking?
Does the sound continue when you're stopped?
Does it depend on how hard you put the brakes on?
Or does it sound like an abs issue?
Have you had a look underneath?
Same issue when using the handbrake? Might be worth testing out to rule out some things..

The more info the better..

NO its not a vibration from the discs. Its the whole car shaking.
Even when I've stopped the vibration continues.Actually it starts vibrating when the car stops moving in the drive position.

Ah right..

It could be abs related, just a guess, but It seems there's a hydraulic motor and pressure release valves under the car (in around the middle) that controls the flow of fluid to the abs system. Could be loose, or maybe malfunctioning..

There's so many sensors and systems in new cars, I'm still getting to grips with everything myself. Might be worth downloading Servicebox. It's got all the diagrams and repair procedures etc..

on handbrake it dosent shake. But when you move a bit forward and stop it shakes.
I changed the engine mounts of it and it lessened the vibrations.
But now there are few more problems.
I didnt mention that i had a accident last month. Not much damaged but i had to replace CV joints yesterday.
But now after replacement of cv joints the brake pedal is vary tight and requires a lot of force to push it down.
And after replacement of engine mounts, there seems to be a loud booming noise coming, sort of sound you get when a truck is pulling and very heavy load.
