Head gasket has catastrophically gone on my 2009 Peugeot Diesel 1.6 HDI - ie it is not driveable. Been quoted approx £700 to remove remove head, pressure test and skim if necessary, replace gasket and put back together. Mechanic though is not 100% it will work depending on what conditions he finds.

In a quandary whether to go for it, or just cut cut my losses and try and sell it as it is (possibly for scrap). Loath to do that as it is newly MOTed, has 2 new tyres, etc etc

Thoughts?

Hi James,

The problem with paying the people £700 to do the head gasket only to find the valves are fried and the cylinder head is warped is a non starter for me.

I think your best bet is to source a second hand engine like this:-

FORD PEUGEOT CITROEN 05-11 1.6 HDI ENGINE + INJECTORS + PUMP DV6ATED4 (9HX)

If your garage is any good, they will be able to advise you about this option. Cheaper than buying a new car and getting next to nothing for your car for scrap!

Good luck,

Grumpy.
