The plastic cover behind the flywheel for the alternator belt for no reason began rubbing up against the back of the flywheel causing a whining sound.
I removed the engine mount, flywheel and alternator belt and got rid of the whining sound. Took the opportunity to fit a new alternator belt.
I didn't touch anything else on the engine.
After everything was put back together the car began idling high (1200 revs) and after a while started what you see in the video below.
anyone have any idea what is going on here?

I called the AA this morning and a guy came around.
Wouldn't you believe it the car wouldn't do the thing. It was idling high (1200) but was running sound.
Shortly after the the guy left I went back out and started the car to go down to the shops and it started doing this:

It's the same noise but with a little different timing to it. By the way; when the revs increase, the accelerator is not being pushed.
It may be worth mentioning that when the accelerator pedal is pressed there is kind of like a vacuum sound and the car is a little slow to rev.

A friend has offered to lend me a bluetooth OBD unit but I need to get some free software for my laptop for this. Any ideas where to get free OBD software... Google doesn't show much.
