Hi folks, I have a 2009 Peugeot 207 XR which died 2 days ago mid-drive.
While driving, there was a sudden loss of power - from what I can remember I think I could still do small revs but there was no acceleration, I thought I had put it in the wrong gear at first. Had just enough momentum to get it onto the side of the road.
I turned the engine off then back on again but it wouldn't start, the ignition goes on but the engine doesn't fire up. Checked under the hood and my coolant is bone dry, I sat for a little while then topped up with water as that's all I had, waited to cool down further but no luck. Had to get a recovery vehicle to take us home.
Yesterday I purchased a Bluetooth ODB reader and torque app and stuck that in, being a complete novice most of the values made no sense to me really but I did find the fuel system status widget which reads "open loop due to insufficient temperature". No fault codes are displayed though. This was from cold/ambient temperature(16c maybe)

Could this just be a faulty sensor(damaged through lack of coolant in system)? If so how do I go about finding and replacing?

No errors on dashboard? Check where coolant is gone. Could be water pump like it was in my pug without power loss. New pump and pug is flying again.

Find someone near you and check your car before garage will charge you for something else.

Open loop just means engine is not being controlled by lambda it wont stop it starting you have something else wrong

Water loss may be something else again and again it would not stop starting unless you overheated it so much it has lost all compression

No errors on dashboard? Check where coolant is gone. Could be water pump like it was in my pug without power loss. New pump and pug is flying again.

I've been reading that if a thermostat is broken/missing it can cause the fuel system to remain in open loop and thus be over-cooling the engine at ignition, does this sound right and is it something that I could be experiencing?
I really don't want the expense of having it towed to a garage and then the work on top of that :nono:


As there are no fault codes does anyone have a troubleshooting guide, i.e what parts to check first and in what order

I had read that a faulty/missing thermostat can cause an open loop and thus overcool the engine when its supposed to be warm to start.

Any tips on what is the best way to diagnose th issue without having to fork out getting it towed to a garage and fixed if it's potentially something I can do myself
