I have just purchased a second hand Peugeot Partner 1,6 XT from 2003.
It's done about 130.000km

The clutch has gone faulty - but it's a bit sporadic.

There are periods where it looses the resistance and makes a sound like a ratchet. It does not engage, but sticks to the floor.

I then have to lift it with my foot and try again, but at times it takes 10-15 tries before it works again.

I have tried it with my hand and the sound comes from the mechanism where the pedal is fastened.

It can work for 15 minutes of mixed driving and then suddenly fail. I pull over and keep trying until it works again, and then drive on.
Impossible to get anywhere in a sensible fashion with a clutch like that.

Any ideas what might cause this?
I have a new clutch cable ready for my local mechanic to fit, but I'm unsure if this will actually fix the problem?

If its not the Ratchet it will be the Clutch Master
I had the same prob with my 206 petrol 2000
