hi guys, got my wife's car back from mot and has an advisory for a leak at the sump and was told by the garage we need a new sump, the car is a 307 1.4 petrol 2007 model, just wondering if its as simple as removing the oil then taking the bolts out, new seal, new sump and tighten back on, refil oil as noticed with my car even the most simple sounding jobs on a peugeot aint exactly that. any advice much appreciated thanks

Assuming its a 16v, I did it on one that I had for a different reason though.
Need to remove the front exhaust just above the cat. then remove the pipe clamp after the cat, then all sump bolts, think there's about a dozen or so.
My 2005 model didn't have a gasket but black sealant.
Once the exhaust is out of the way it's a simple job

thanks for the reply, think its just the 8v, had a look over the weekend, looks easy to get in to without taking the exhaust off, will get the stuff ordered this week and give it a bash

hi guys, got the sump and advised by the boy at the car parts to get the gasket so got that as well, do i still use a gasket silicone on it as well or just the gasket ? thanks

Engine sump doesn't actually use a gasket but just sealant, however if you've got one and its thicker than 1 or 2mm then you shouldn't need any extra sealant apart from using some small dabs to keep it in place while offering it up to the engine block.
Make sure that all the surfaces are clear of any old sealant before you start though

I dont use gaskets the sealer is better many outlets sell gaskets for parts that did not come with gaskets originally mainly due to people expecting them to have gaskets :)

When you use a gasket you are introducing an extra leak point as it can then leak from both sides of gasket :)

well finally got round to it last night all going fine got the sump off got the new one on, then came the problem, 2nd last bolt snaps, put the rest on and filled with oil anyway seem to hold, went out to car this morning and slight drip of oil, tried the local car parts they dont have replacment and peugeot will be a few days and need to buy a pack of 20, is there anything i could just fill the whole with that would hold ? i no i get like metal glue or high temp silicone, any suggestions welcome as can't really be botherd with taking it all of again, thanks

You could try drilling it and using an "easy out". or ask a local garage to do it for you :D
You must have really being tightening it up but only really needed to be "nipped up" plus a little bit more.
