Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a Peugeot 207 1.4 M Play, 3 door, 57 reg, 35k on clock. I only purchased it 2 years ago from a peugeot dealership and I feel like I've spent a fortune on it already. Just had my MOT today (at the same dealership) and had to pay for new drive shaft (£200) and when I went back to pay they informed me I had a large oil leak from the head gasket which needs fixing sooner rather than later, £870!!! The woman managed to knock it down to £680. I know its a must that this gets done, but I've read a few times now on the internet that this is a common problem with the 207 cars, I don't feel I should be paying out this ridiculous amount of money for a common fault, my car is only 5 years old at the end of this month, low mileage. Do you think its reasonable that I ask Peugeot to contribute? Or will it be a case of flogging a dead horse. Feel like selling it I've spent that much on it.

Did it fail the MOT and find a different garage to have the head gasket done. Where are you located?

It failed on the drive shaft having a split in it, they fixed that, then told me about the head gasket. I'm based on Wirral, Merseyside.

Sounds like you have been ripped off by about £180 up to now for the drive shaft, if it was just the boot that had split then thats all you need to replace, kits are available from around £15 for a split boot kit, which gets glued together. I have done many of them and only take 20mins a side.
As said above if its past the MOT and they are letting you know you have an oil leak, then get in the car and leave them asap and get an independant opinion about head gasket.
