The oil and water are two closed systems that run next to each other, and meet at the head gasket, so that would be my guess.

Sounds like there might be a bit of pressure if it gushed out, does sound like head gasket.
Is the oil ok or is it milky inside the filler cap or on the dipstick ?

I would advise you not driving it as you could cause some serious problems.

But

I had a Renault 19 TD I bought on a well known auction site for £100 with the same problem, I drove it 180 miles home and we put another 20000 miles on it and it even passed its MOT like it

I never did the gasket and was still going strong when I sold it £450 :thumb:

Hi, the problem was the oil cooler. Its a common fault. this can be tested by bypassing the water hose to the oil cooler then running the car for a few days no harm will come to anything at all, you will then see the slight oil leak comming out of the oil cooler water pipe.this was recommended to me by a peugeot technician.

Hi, the oil cooler complete with oil filter housing is about 200 pounds inc vat from main dealer, I tend not to use second hand. the job takes about an hour. After hours of research and telephone calls this is the option to take on 99.9% of problems with oil in the water with NO WATER IN THE OIL.A common fault not just with peugeots, this info saved me hundreds of pounds from removing my cylinderhead.
Hope this helps.
