The saga continues, just when I thought that all faults were rectified (and we managed to get through an MOT the week without a failure) my 2.0 HDI has developed an odd engine noise.

When accelerating the car sounds like its being wound up (can still hear engine accelerating though, this sounds like a separate low range grrr noise)and when you take your foot off the accelerator it sounds like its winding down.

Performance is not affected in the slightest.

If you depress the clutch the noise does not disappear.

The noise is not evident at idle.

Any thoughts?

Obvious thing to determine - is it road speed related (ie, gets louder/quieter as you go faster/slower regardless of gear), or engine speed related (goes up and down with each gear). Suss that out and you've halved the potential culprits.

Its in the Pug specialist doctors again for diagnosis!

Turns out it was the near side front wheel bearing.
£166 to replace including fitting.

I think sadly it may be time to call it quits and for me and the pug to go our separate ways :nono:

As much as I like the styling, comfort and performance I cant live with these reliability issues, especially given the mileage I do.

Someone will be getting a bargain!
