As part of my recent bottom ball joint replacement I had to change one of the the track rod ends. I spotted one on ebay for a magical £12 - it arived the next day and you would thik ' jobs a good one' but no! The tapered shaft on the ball joint was way too thin and too long. I just guesed they had sent me the wrong one - but on investigation it seems that due to some faults with sterring racks PUG used some steering racks with no standard track rod ends and hubs!!!!

After a lot of looking ( initially they said that I must but a complete rack!) the part was loated on the system - cost £ 67 - don't you just hate dealer parts.

My car is an 06 407 sw HDi

I love dealer parts. They invariably fit better and last longer.

You've already found out first hand why a pattern item was so cheap.

BTW, what was wrong with the original TRE?
