Hi all, I have recently bought a 2008 207GT 1.6 (150). I didn't pay alot for it and its MOT had expired so expected some issues with it, but aside from the following, it seems pretty sorted!

It has a strange misfire issue at idle but it seems to go when the throttle is touched. I took a code scanner with me when I went to view the car initially and it came up with nothing and everything looked normal. It does seems to idle very low, 650rpm +/-. It feels slightly down on power and stutters ever so slightly, and very occasionally. It was put in for a fresh MOT and passed on everything aside the emissions and front positioning lamps which I missed. Its high on Exhaust Carbon Monoxide, Lambda and Hydrocarbon content after 2nd Fast idle test. The tester seems to think its a vacuum leak causing this (he said he could here the air leak), which he said would make sense as to the misfire and the high emissions.

So a few questions;
Does this seem a reasonable cause for the issues?
If so, is it a common problem and easily rectified?
If not, what else could it be?

It's history shows the engine driven high pressure fuel pump, timing chain, water pump, intake clean etc being done in the last 18 months or so. It seems some of these are common causes of similar issues with these engines. Hoping the expensive fixes have been done/attempted! :confused:

know these cars get offered with all the usual, timing done etc, but having worked on numerous of these and owning one that runs 300bhp, its normal for the timing work to have been done very badly unless was at a dealer or someone who very experienced on them using the Peugeot tools, not the copy tools that go around which when the timing is "set", actually sets it well outwith the tolerance allowed!

Hi, I don't believe it's decat. There was no mention of it or any pointers to it being so.

Interesting about the timing, not something I had considered before hand. I will consult the reciepts when I get to the car next, and look into who did the work. Any ideas on the cost involved with getting the timing sorted?

Its also worth noting that the intake was loose and missing some screws, indicating someone had been into it but didn't reassemble correctly

timing aint cheap, its a 6 hour job and the parts for full timing change retail at over £370 these days! so at a dealer its probably close on £1k give or take.

its a real bug bare of mine when people advertised a 207 with the THP engine saying "timing done" basically means hee haw lol as still need to look after it every week checking and topping oil up or after a long journey. Other one is the garages that say oh yeh we done loads of these and can take your money without doing the job properly!

over the years have seen too many to mention people try do it themselves, change the tensioner itself, use the copy or replica tools, and just ends in tears!

also despite what some specialist companies offer and ebay sellers offer, there is no such thing as a timing kit for the THP engine, the timing parts that are used are dependant on whether the timing chain has stretched or not upon initial investigation.

Thanks, seems a likely cause. Is it quite possible that the VVT Solenoid for the intake cam could be faulty or operating incorrectly? It is running very rich, and has high HC, maybe an injector fault? Am I right in saying the injectors are not cam driven on this engine?

I will also check where the timing work was done. Is it reasonable for the garage who did it to warranty the work done? If so I will go back for some interrogation lol

So, been back to the car today. The garage looked for air leaks but none to be found. I took my code reader to it again and although it said '0' codes found, I read them anyway and discovered code 'P0172', bank 1 too rich or something along those lines. Erased all codes, and read again, there it is. Repeated a third time and it came up again - not an old code.

So, could this now point to the ECU needing the renowned update?

Could it also be a MAF issue or something similar?
