My wife has a 54 plate 307 1.4 which has 2 broken teeth from the differential crown wheel and has holed the casing. 53,000 miles on the clock and serviced as per spec. Anyone else had a similar problem?
The car was bought with full Peugeot service history and has original steel wheels. Since my first thread, I have spoken with the supplier of the new gearbox who says he has had the same problem on numerous occasions and puts it down to poor manufacture/material quality. Peugeot deny any knowledge of such faults (of course). Interestingly enough, there is no damage to the pinion drive gear and the two crownwheel teeth appear to have snapped off cleanly. I have been a motor engineer for 35 years and never seen this kind of problem on a car diff. Either way it's cost £1100 for the new box!!!:
