Do you also use fat32 format type? The usb stick should be formatted as fat32 only in order to be recognized by the infotainment system. I do not know if you have this option on your Mac.

Have you done everything else by the book? Download files from MyPeugeot site on your computer, unzip and copy them to the previously formatted usb stick? Insert usb stick and start the car?
Everything should be easy to do. The car's engine should be working until update process finishes.
