Model: Puegeot 307, 55 plate, 1.6 petrol, 60k miles

Got low oil pressure warning light today when starting. It went off so drove. After stopping for 30 mins, restarting the warning light came on again. Went to local garage. They identified a "ticking" noise seemingly coming from the top of the engine (although hard to be certain exact noise description and location)

They aren't sure what the problem is but seem to be suggesting some engine damage due to it running too low on oil.

At idling the ticking is about 4 per second

Any ideas would be most welcome
