Hi

A couple of times in recent months my 2007 407SW 2.2 Hdi (mileage 96k) has cut out and then not started when the fuel level was getting low (25 miles left first time, 66 miles left second time).
The mechanic said the fuel pressure was low and there was no fuel in the fuel rail or bulb. I haven't hooked it up to look for any codes yet. I've actually run the fuel lower than this many times in the past (i.e. less than 20 miles left) without the same problem, so is low fuel the real cause of this, does it get worse over time, and is there anything that can be done to sort it out. I'm sort of relying on keeping the tank over half full at the moment.

I would say its possible you have a small leak in your pipework and when the tank is low its managing to draw in some air when i say leak in the pipework i mean its leaking air IN not leaking fuel out.

Other possibility is the sender unit inside the tank is not going all the way to the bottom meaning it runs out earlier than it should.
