Latest problem on my '08 Peugeot 308 1.6 vti S...

When I first got the car, 10 weeks ago, I found there had been a recall for a lighting issue, so in it went, and software was updated...

...after the update was carried out, the car wouldn't start from cold...

...another software update corrected this, then the oil level light kept showing OIL - -...

...yet another software update remedied this...

...driving down the road and the headlights turn themselves on.

To turn them off, I need to manually turn them on at the stalk, then turn them off.

This may happen 2 or three times per journey, or not at all.

Would I be correct in assuming that during one of these software updates that either the first update has been lost, or somewhere along the lines there is a conflict in the software?

Car is now out of Peugeot warranty, by 1 week, but still under warranty with Bristol St Motors, so no probs getting it sorted, just very inconvenient getting the car to them AGAIN!

Reject the car, get your money back. Why pay all that money and keep fannying around?

They could have enabled Auto lights, even tho' it doesn't have them...

This is their last chance to get it sorted, in 10 weeks they have had the car:

1 day for the MOT they forgot to put on it, and update the lights.
2 days to update the starting problem.
1 day, on 2 occasions to look at the OIL - -, but couldn't do it.
4 days to repair the OIL - - problem, working on it Fri, Sat, and Mon.

Between SG Petch, and Bristol Street Motors, they have used the car more than my wife. :p

Well, it's back in today @ SG Petch.

Looking at a full system software re-load.

My question is this, after the previous failed attemps, could this cause more problems than it is curing?

Anyway, told the Garage that this is their last chance to put it right, or I will be returning the car. I was surprised at the Salesman's response, "So you should" he said, "Plenty of other stuff on the forecourt we could exchange it for, and maybe get you a better deal as compensation"

So, now I'm torn, I like the car and would be happy to have it back, but is there a better deal out there?

Generally 308's are pretty hassle free. Reject it and make the seller replace it with one that works properly.

Well, no suprises for guessing, but SG Petch can't find a fault, and they can't replicate the lights turning themselves on.

Their Service Advisor's first excuse was they are day lights, I advised them that I knew the difference between day lights and headlights turning on, they then said the car shouldn't be fitted/have the option for day lights, I told them they were on when I bought the car, without any problems, and left it with them.

Went to collect the car, and they claim "the day light option should not have been enabled, and this was the problem, it has now been disabled in the options, and should be ok now, but monitor the problem."

Not happy, Bristol St Motors have been great, but still can't get it sorted, Service Manager going to check up with SGP tomorrow, but really can't see me keeping the car beyond the weekend.

Been busy with other things, so sorry for the late updates...

Bristol Street Motors, and myself, not happy with SGP's 'diagnosis', brought in an independant Auto Electrician who specialises in Peugot/Citroen, and after a bit of head scratching and testing has traced the error, and even replicated the fault. He has diagnoses a faulty COM2000 unit.

He has passed on his findings to Bristol Street Motors, and now waiting for Peugeot to commit to repairing the fault under warranty.

Car is booked in for Tuesday (Again), so fingers crossed.

Anyway, BSM have agreed to replace the car if there are any more related problems, or Peugeot won't replace the COM2000 unit.

I'll let you know how I get on....the saga continues. ;)
