Hello everyone,

We have a 207 sw 1.4 vti 16v 95 hp,
The problem is that the car is running rich with a very poor milage, also it has black smoke,

I have attatched my obd scanner and got the code:

P2246 - O2 Sensor Reference Voltage Circuit High Bank 1 Sensor 1

The fuel system is open due to fault code,
If I clear the code then start the car I get Lambda 1.999, then after a while I get a pending DTC P2246,

The strange thing is that when I power cycle the engine after the code is stored, Lambda reads between 0.98 and 1.00 or so,

If I clear the code again, the scenario starts all over again and Lambda reads 1.999,

Is Lambda 1.999 indicating a massive air in the mixture, or is it an ECU issue?

The Lambda sensor (Bosch Lsu 4.9) was fitted new recently,

I am out of ideas,

only thing i can add is to check you have no air in coolant, bleed the system use the bleed cap and squeeze pipes with engine running and warm.

think you may need it on pp2000/lexia diagnostic.

I will check air in coolant, BTW all those tests are performed when the engine is fully warmed at arround 90 degrees celcius

I have already read the code with pp2000, same code every time, also monitored Lambda signal it showed a high voltage arround 2000mv or 3000mv I don't remember the exact value,

I have read on internet that updating ECU at the dealer solves a lot of problems on those engines, however the dealer was a bit worried if the update hangs in the middle it could cause the car not starting at all.

before going any further, check the fusebox and ecu plugs/sockets for any sign of corrosion or damp.(undo a battery lead and unplug them all)
after that think i would be looking for a cheap used lambda just for diagnostic and to rule out duff replacement.

Hello stripe88, thank you for your reply,

ECU plugs are like new, also fusebox under the hood as well as under steering wheel look clean,

I may try an used sensor,
Also I may insist for an unpade at the dealer,

strange, the daughter drove through a deep puddle and looks like she has destroyed her post cat lambda, i am getting 5 02 codes which wont reset for long.

off to ebay i go.

Its not a BMW engine its a peugeot engine built in france with SOME BMW input but it is built by peugeot used by BMW.

Too many people say its BMW and its not nor is the diesel in the mini it is peugeot too :)

Hello again,
Issue solved, we fitted a used kit (BSI, ECU, Keys), now lambda values are read correctly, black smoke gone, idle is smooth and fuel cosumption is back to normal.

So definitely the old ECU had a hardware defect that caused Lambda sensor not being probed, I have looked on the old ECU's Circuit Board but no sign of damage.
