Had a knocking noise for over 3 weeks now on my 2014 2008. At first I thought it may be the tie rods, so booked in to a garage who diagnosed a wear in the top mount on the drivers side, so booked it in to get it replaced at a cost of £200, only to drive it of the forecourt and hear the noise again straight away. Garage had it straight back on the ramp and the mechanic and I went through the car. They agreed to have it back and go through it again, but found nothing! We did notice that the knocking/rattle is around about 1.3k revs through most gears and when slowing down approaching junctions and roundabouts.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatfully received

I can hear the noise, but the noise isn't something I can easily put my finger on.
What engine do you have in the 2008 ?

It's a diesel 1.6l.
The rattle/knocking appears when the engime is vibrating when in higher gears snd low revs, when slowing down, breaking down to a stop qnd on inclines and declines 🤷‍♂️

Wondering if there is play somewhere in the drive shaft?
All felt ok when checked though.
Gear changes are smooth with no clunky or forced changes.
